Barcelona EX Skate 2016?!

Ok but seriously how did the audience of the Barcelona exhibition skate survive seeing not only the fluffiest Viktuuri moment on ice but also Welcome to the madness?! Like i've seen them monthz apart and only clips of each and I'm barely hanging on?!

Why did JJ get swallowed by the pressure of GPF?

It was quite shocking indeed when I watched Ep 11 for the first time around, JJ’s almost cocky level of self-confidence is his trademark, and a part of me thought his “anxieties” is just a convenient way to bump him off the podium and make way for our beloved Yuris. But on second/third/fiftieth watch I seem to have found an explanation. In a way I owe my analysis to @madelezabeth who has a nice meta about JJ and North-American culture. 

Yuuri says JJ reminds him of himself last year, which got me thinking about what they have in common. Both of them feel somewhat isolated and fighting alone despite masses of supporters around them. Yuuri was blind to the love around him until Victor comes along, he says so much himself. JJ on the other hand appears hyper confident and popular. But despite the support around him, he never wins the approval of his peer skaters. I can’t imagine how shitty he must feel, knowing that he is strong but never seem to win the respect of people on his par. Of course to a certain degree he must have rationalized to himself that the isolation comes from him being too strong a competing force. His internal monologue shows his tendency of imagining his competitors being scared off by him, and I think we can all agree that this whole train of thought is quite ridiculous.

I think JJ actually longs for acceptance from his fellow skaters, and the failure to attain it may have been a solid reason why he skated so disastrously in Barcelona. @madelezabeth mentions that teasing and mutual insults is one of the ways athletes like JJ would have used to built friendly rapports with his competitors, so I think JJ is actually trying to become friends with Viktuuri & co. and gain their approval/acceptance. The dinner scene in Ep 10 is pretty strong proof. It is obvious that no one bothers inviting JJ even though every GP finalist is present, they even leave right after JJ shows up, which must have felt like a personal attack. Despite all this, JJ shows up. 

So how did JJ even know where to find them? At first I didn’t dwell on it too much as I seldom dwell on the more logistical side of the plot, most of the time I just take it as it is. Lots of things in YOI cannot be taken literally, e.g. Yurio stomping on Yuuri’s face anyone? JJ’s appearance may seem like a comic moment but can come with a sensible explanation that sheds light on his GPF panic. It is my head canon that JJ saw Instagram pictures with geo tag on Chris or Pitchit’s accounts, as we know both Chris and Pitchit update their accounts almost in real time, it would make sense that JJ can locate them.

And if that’s what he did, can you imagine how shitty he must feel, first realising that your competitors are all hanging out, purposefully leaving you out, then undergoing some internal debate of whether or not to seek them out, finally deciding to do so only to have everyone walk away the moment you ask to join the gang make a dumbass and possibly offensive joke?

(Just look at their faces - as a hardcore Viktuuri shipper when JJ says this I was like shut up bitch -______- )

Why, of all people, would JJ be so intimidated by Otabek? Besides the obvious fact that Otabek was one skating right before him, it’s because from the dinner on the previous evening, JJ sees that even the supposedly unsociable “odd one” has no problem making his way in the circle.

Is it still surprising then, that JJ got swallowed by the pressure of GPF, and in his mind seeing faces of his supporters dissolve into mocking and despising faces of a gang of top-of-the-world skaters?

PS. Poor JJ, but all this doesn’t mean I don’t still roll my eyes to the back of my head every time you act like an dumbass. I simply marvel at the wonderful characterization in YOI.

Weird Yuri!!! On Ice Dream

So a while back I had this dream that Victor and I were at the GPF and I was Yuuri. I remember walking around thinking that I had the best program and I was ready for this but when It was almost my turn I ran up to Victor and said "Actually I have no idea how to skate wtf do I do" and I just started freaking out and Victor was like "babe no are you okay what" I don't remember anything else
