Star Lord & Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy : fakechrispratt and  linkaladylinks

To me it is the funniest cosplay story that turned into the funniest how did you meet your significant other. It was Otakon 2017 the first year in the DC Convetion Center, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 had just come out and I cried like a baby at Yondu`s death. Which led to a last minute addition to my cosplay line-up, I created my own take on a Lady Yondu. It was also my first time using body paint, I admit the color tone still needs some improvement.

Friday I roll up to the convention proud of my work and the compliments and picture requests rolled by the other congoers. I made my way into the artist alley after a few hours and was just casually looking through all the great artwork when in the distance I heard the soundtrack to the second Guardians movie. I thought 'Oh must be another Guardians cosplayer.'

No sooner I turn down another aisle and this guy shouts "DADDY!!!" I look up to see a Star Lord cosplayer charging at me. Playing along I meet him halfway and he pulls me into a hilarious bear hug. He pulls away and looks me up and down, "Mommy?" He asked once he realized I was a female Yondu.

We both laughed and he told me that he made a bet with a friend that if he saw a Yondu cosplayer he would screen daddy and give them a hug. We ended up taking a few pictures together and he invited me to join his group.

At first I declined the offer as I was supposed to be meeting up with friends but long story short I ended up walking with him and I am so glad I did. We became close friends and doing group cosplays a year later we started dating and our group cosplays now have couples cosplays mixed in.

I was never really the person that fit into the normal bucket, cosplay let me express myself and test the limits to my creative side. Meeting fellow cosplayers I started to fell welcome and fit in, normal. Cosplay to me is confidence.

As an October baby I have always loved costumes and dressing up. I met a friend in middle school (2004) who like me loved anime and manga, it was that friend who told me about a convention in Baltimore (Otakon) where people dress up as their favorite characters instantly I wanted to go.

In general it would have to be when young congoers who build up the courage to ask for a picture. There have been several instances where children see me as the character and not just a person in a costume and they get so excited for just a picture but seeing that joy I like to take it step further. I try to get down to their level costume permitting and talk to them. Its like magic hearing them talk to you their excitement just bubbling over. I just want to encourage them to enjoy the fandom and experiences of cosplay.
