Practice night at our downtown dojo. The last technique of the evening was yonkyo on shomen uchi, aka the moment where the air gets filled with more or less loud shouts of pain, from every corner of the room.
Still everybody *laughs* and is having a good time at the same time! And if you don’t do it properly, then you continue, switch, adapt, aim better until it doesn’t just hurt your uke -- until the pain is debilitating and has them crumbling down, begging.
Ah, aikido what an odd way to pass your time... a time and place where you get to share a laugh and smirk with your elderly sempai, and he mouthes “yikes, that must hurt so much” while watching our GM demonstrate it on a poor white belt (over 40s) wriggling on the floor. And you can *see* the energy flow from his entire body to focus on that very small area on the inside of his uke’s twisted wrist.
Then, you blink and next thing you know you’re the one on your stomach tapping furiously for release. OK OK OK I get it now, *this* is where you press on the nerve, not *there*, *here*.
Break it down on Friday
Friday night classes are really poorly attended, I wonder why? Jodan tsuki irimi nage: Defend the face! Go straight between the elbow and the shoulder and move down, don't even try to establish a grip. Then the trailing hand can come across the neck so you have a choice between a neck throw or a hip throw. Much less speed is needed, and with the right timing it looks just like the warmup exercise where your hands move in counterrotating circles. Katate mochi yonkyo: I said "yonkyo" out loud in the change room. I'm sorry. I really thought Chio sensei wouldn't hear it. I'm sorry. I struggled with remaining upright instead of bending over with the final pin. I'm still sorry. Jodan tsuki sankyo, haymaker style: I kept on trying to "see" the sankyo grip instead of feeling for it, so it felt mostly awkward. I felt, with zero evidence, that I was trying Chio sensei's patience. I get nervous around haymakers.

Mixed feelings
I've got a lot on my mind, from both the up and down parts. And I've been too busy between the gym, eating healthy and work.
But I did get to teach my coworker some aikido tonight.... and that was cool. It was cooler because I got to yonkyo him too. (No I didn't teach him that, we were catching about aikido vs hapikido). It was priceless because there is not middle ground or building up a tolerance to yonkyu.... it almost always fricking hurts.
Aikido Yesterday
We did a lot of push ups and abbs, as usual. I am turning into quite a gladiator and I am not giving it up. I kept doing the abbs even when I thought I was almost dead beat. After that came the stretching. Still need to work on that, I am too tight, cannot stretch as well as I would like to. I know I should not compare myself to others, but still...
The techniques came after the warm up and they went in groups of 3, 4 people because we were too many in a small dojo.

Irimi nage a special one. I forgot the exact name. It was really complicated and I could hardly do it with a 360degree spin and irimi nage at the end.
From my observation so far I can see that sensei sort of keeps the sam attach for the whole week and we execute more techniques for it. So let me see what will come yesterday. Will blog about it on Thursday.
