Naomi Osaka and Yoon Ahn Redefine Court Style with Bold Self-Expression
Naomi Osaka’s powerful return to tennis is making waves far beyond the court, inspiring a new generation to embrace their power and personal style with confidence. In celebration of her comeback, Nike has partnered with Osaka and renowned fashion designer Yoon Ahn to create exclusive day and night competition kits for her highly anticipated return to the U.S. Open.
These custom looks feature one-of-a-kind performance dresses tailored to Osaka's unique game, along with walk-on skirts and jackets adorned with oversized bows—bold, distinctive elements that echo her dominance on the court.
“The inspiration that fueled the look for me — and this might be a Japanese term — is feeling like a 'magical girl' on the court,” Osaka shares. “There’s a moment of transformation for me when I walk onto the court, and I have a lot of fun playing, so wanting everyone who sees the outfit to connect with that feeling is a really big motivation for me.”
In tandem with these kits, Nike is launching the new Nike Women by Yoon apparel collection. This collection draws on Nike’s innovation and design philosophy, which is centered on listening to the athlete, understanding their needs, and helping them achieve their dreams. By bringing together Osaka and Ahn, a longtime Nike collaborator, the brand is pushing the boundaries of sport, style, and culture.
Ahn’s collection takes inspiration from court styles but plays outside the lines, combining elements like vintage school uniform colors and classic sportswear to create a rebellious, teen-inspired aesthetic. Unexpected cuts blend classic tailoring with a modern edge, offering versatile pieces that can be worn as a uniform or styled individually. Remixed heritage details, such as chenille varsity patches and YA for Nike Court logos, add a contemporary twist to classic tennis styles.
This campaign builds on the themes found in Ahn’s previous collaborations with Nike, particularly the 2023 Nike x Ambush football collection, which explored femininity, fashion, and pop culture through the lens of a fictional teen movie. With Osaka as the campaign's muse, it’s a powerful reminder of what happens when two trailblazing leaders come together—a synergy that only Nike and its partners can create.
“We live in a girls’ world, and I wanted to embody that in Naomi’s on-court look as well as the collection,” says Ahn. “For Naomi’s look, she brought forward a vision and it was my job as a designer to create something that she'll feel confident and comfortable in when she walks onto the court, allowing her to bring 100% of herself. The collection is an extension of that idea, allowing women to bring out their character and enhance their own personal styles.”
The Nike Women by Yoon collection will be available on nike.com and at select Nike retailers starting August 27.
