Ok I'd like to put in a formal request for a York/Wash prank war.
Wash wasn’t dumb. He knew when he’d lost.
Carolina warned him about this, when the whole affair started. His boss had pulled him aside as soon as he mentioned that he accepted York’s challenge.
“He’s my best friend,” Carolina has said, her hand on Wash’s shoulder. “But he is an absolute bastard. This is a fight you’re not gonna win, rookie. Give it up.”
But Wash had relented. Because York has challenged him to a prank war. And if there was one thing Wash thought he excelled at, it was pranks.
He was clearly wrong. Terribly wrong. Because somehow, against all logic, York had managed to freeze his entire room. Cover every surface in ice. Every. Last. Surface.
If he wasn’t so pissed, the sight of Maine sitting on a frozen blanket reading a magazine might have been comical.
“Where is he?” Wash asked, defeated. Maine just pointed to his right, which Wash could loosely translate to “in his room.” Wash turned on his heel, hitting the heating unit on their wall and headed down the hall.
When he knocked on York’s door, York was waiting.
“Cool, rookie?” York was leaning on the side of his doorframe, his smirk almost too large for his face. Wash resisted the urge to throw up his hands.
“Yes. Very funny. How the fuck did you get that past Maine?”
“He was on board as soon as I offered him Golf weekly. Dude has his weaknesses,” York said. “So you admit defeat? Ready to surrender? You know there are things you gotta do for that.”
Wash sighed. Carolina had warned him about this too; to end a prank war with York, one had to stoop to the bottom of the barrel. Running around naked. Flashing the Director. Shaving off their hair.
“Yes, yes, lay it on me,” Wash said, tilting up his chin. He was a Freelancer, he could take whatever stupid hazing York had for him. He was an adult. A solider. He was-
Totally not prepared when York leaned forward to press a light kiss to his lips.
Wash froze. His eyes flashed open. If he squeaked, his mind didn’t register it to save himself further embarrassment. York pulled away and winked at him.
“Let me know if you need help getting warm, Rookie.”
And with that, he closed the door.
If any of the Freelancers claimed not to hear Wash’s resulting freakout, they were dead lying.
