I don’t know for sure that squid don’t have compound eyes (I do) and Mr Rolkien sure doesn’t. He’s like the... Lovecraft of spiders. Doesn’t know how they operate, hates them a lot, racist. it all adds up.

Okay. But consider "blue raspberry" as the more proper definition of "blue flavor". Obviously literal blue doesn't have a flavor beyond synesthesia. But there are flavors in the world that are best described as colors. Purple comes to mind.
