Really find it wild beyond belief how many people don't understand what's going on Chinese entertainment industry is like who wrote like paragraphs and paragraphs about how danmei isn't remotely meaningful to the LGBT community in China yet there's been a massive pushback against it & the CCP releasing statements about "sissy men" in adaptations and passing anti erotica laws after the success of danmei cnovels.
Like clearly the government at least views it all as a threat and it's fucking insane that people keep going after female authors for writing danmei or whatever when actually government censorship of expression of same gender love and backlash against the entertainment industry being so influential on young people's opinions (which are much more open to lgbt people than older generations) is a much clearer problem for Gay People in Media than whatever people want to imprison MXTX for or rip Priest's skin off for.
Like we can't talk about this the same way as North America & Western Europe because media censorship and fan consumption are intimately linked in China & people saying that hating too much on danmei will lead to more institutional homophobia are actually literally correct

receiving compliments is always such a weird thing?? particularly if they’re like talking about my body. bc people tend to like the most feminine aspects of my appearance. but my brain generally goes BZZT… error: does not compute. bc those are the things i dislike most about myself. like could someone for once be like nice leg hair or nice sort of mustache instead of… idk nice neck or whatever.
