we've imagined another part of that fairy tale AU. can't make sketches rn, so we share this being roughly put into words. for the comfort of whoever needs it, maybe.

vessels i and ii are staying in their old haunted house near the sea. it's late night, both awake, Sleep had manifested physically close to them.

ii says that it's good not all four decided to stay in the house together back then. i agrees and says, worried, that he can't reach for iii via their magical link. Sleep, as displeased and disturbed as a deity with limited powers can be in this situation, explains iii has set up a shield just in case someone tries nasty occult stuff, and offers to deliver the message from i and ii when iii is within reach between dreaming and being awake. also Sleep adds that iv had managed to contact iii before the shield was up, and iv is relatively alright. i says quietly he misses them and wants them safe first at whatever price he has to pay. ii shushes him and tells him, a bit humorous, that the price is to finish this hot honey tea. Sleep confirms, as They have no power over all the humans on Earth to eliminate this type of behaviour, and envelopes both in Their shifting eldritch presence, because Their vessels need to be warm and feel protected right now.

Something tight coiled in his chest at the sight of her protective hovering over the unconscious hanyō’s body, like a threatened cobra readying to spring itself to launch its attack. It was enough to stop his approach.

Inuyasha. The one who had everything and nothing all at once.

He had their father’s love, their father’s sword, and now…

He had the miko’s affection.

He realized the last bit of information did not sit well, for reasons unbeknownst to him.

Though calm in appearance, he reeled on the inside as he offered her an olive branch—a peace offering to not completely sully his image in her eyes any further. He bestowed her his wisdom, on how to protect Inuyasha from losing himself to his demon blood. The thought and action perplexed and annoyed him, but he trudged on, nonetheless.

As he turned to walk away from him, from them, he is nearly overwhelmed by the compelling need to erase the scene from his memory.

But one question continually burned and nagged at him, quieting all the others, soiling his mood further.

How did the hanyō befall such fortune?

Ven doesn’t tend to keep his wants to himself, so there aren’t many repressed desires for him to wish he could action.

He would likely take a day off, completely abandoning all responsibilities.

It’s also possible he would try and find his birth parents and confront them, knowing that he would face no consequences for going to Tython.
