Kim having to discipline teenage Penelope
I think Kim isn’t the most disciplinary parent, especially when Penelope is older. Penelope is mostly a good kid, anyway. However, there are definitely times mom!Kim has to come out.
Kim tends to try and let Trini handle the disciplining. She doesn’t like being hard on her daughter. She’s not afraid to however, when the moment calls for it. Most of the time it’s because she’s disappointed in Penelope and her behavior. She thinks Penelope is better than it. She also easily remembers being a teenager, and tries to be sympathetic to whatever Penelope might be going through and how her life may have made it all harder.
She doesn’t full-name Penelope often, but when she does she’s serious. That’s when Penelope knows to listen.
Penelope will try to joke/snark her way out of situations with Kim. Sometimes it works and Kim eases up, but if Kim is pissed off enough/stubborn enough then it doesn’t, and ends up landing Penelope in more trouble. Trini is obviously the parent to fear typically, but an angry Kim is not to be messed with.
Some of Peneleope’s harshest punishments have been in moments where she’s tried to challenge Kim’s parenting or diminish Kim’s rule in some way. Trini tends to watch quietly, knowing Penelope is really screwing herself, but she doesn’t get involved. Kim needs to be taken seriously by her daughter, especially when it comes to her being in charge and taken for her word.
Kim is also usually the first to break on groundings. After a couple of days she tends to let things slide, let Penelope have privileges she shouldn’t yet have. She knows her daughter and knows if she doesn’t learn her lesson right away then she’ll be too stubborn to learn it days later. Trini tries to keep punishments going as long as promised, but will sometimes ease up at Kim’s insistence.
Penelope really does need less disciplining the older she gets. She goes through a lot of usual teenage stages, but typically only once, unless she’s stubborn enough about something; like Josie.
If nothing else, she gets fussed at a little over things, but doesn’t get grounded too often. Trini threatens it a lot, but Penelope doesn’t really do a lot to deserve it. Kim berates Penelope lovingly, picks on her all the time, and that’s her own form of discipline/keeping the line of her parenting.
Trini basically knows that if she’s not home for a night/weekend when Penelope is punished, Penelope and Kim will be at home eating in and watching movies. She expects nothing less.
Kim tends to give Penelope light punishments that benefit her. Fixing her coffee every morning for a week, making her lunches, doing the laundry Trini asked Kim to do. Penelope sees through Kim, but does as she’s told, because she knows Trini will support Kim’s decisions and make it worse if she complains.
