With cards like mystic meditation (DTK) can I discard two creatures if I so choose?

In about a month or so my LGS is hosting Montana state championship for EDH. While in my group I consider myself a competitive player, I do remember going to tournaments in Seattle and having my butt handed to me. Anyway, my question is a two parter. 1.) Do you have any advice for a seasoned casual commander player whose going to a larger tournament? and 2.) Do you have any tips on how to build a commander sideboard? (specifically mono-green elves)

Try and see what system they're using to determine the winners of the tournament. Sometimes it's just who wins the pods, sometimes they award points for certain actions within the game, like killing players or gaining the most life. Sometimes they even take away points for infinite combos to encourage better gameplay. Stuff like that is useful to know so you can edit your deck accordingly

So recently I have been unemployed for a long stretch of time, as a result I have stripped my trade binder in order to stay current with magic (since I couldnt spend money to do so). Now having a job (and thus some money) do you have any advise on the best way to jump start my collection and over all card pool? ... Specifically for the older formats.

There are two things I can think of. You could either try to buy a Lot on Ebay of older cards, and hope you get some good things in it, or at least enough to start the collection. Or, you could get really good at drafting, win lots of drafts to get expensive Standard stuff, and sell that/trade it for older stuff.

My question is about Green Sun's Zenith and Elvish Visionary. The "then shuffle your library" part of green sun is what troubles me. with elvish visionary can i look at the top of my library while tutoring with green sun, put elvish visionary into play and draw that card, before i shuffle green sun back into my library?

No. This doesn’t work for one reason: Elvish Visionary’s ability is a triggered ability.

Triggered abilities usually begin with the words When, Whenever or At, and they work as follows. When a triggered ability’s condition is met, the triggered ability triggers and is put onto the stack like a spell. Then there is a short delay and players get the chance to respond before the trigger resolves and takes effect.

This matters here because all of Green Sun’s Zenith’s effects are completed as part of Green Sun’s Zenith’s resolution, before anything else on the stack will resolve.

In other words, in course of resolving Green Sun’s Zenith, you might put triggered abilities such as Elvish Visionary’s onto the stack, but before any of those abilities resolve, the Zenith will have already been shuffled back in.

Hey, I recently moved to Helena, Montana and can not find the Magic community. I was wondering, what do you do to feed your magic addiction when players are nowhere to be seen? (also hoping some Helena magic players will see this and message me maybe?)

The Wizards site has a search bar that shows you the nearest store that's doing a prerelease, so maybe try that?

Is there time to cast a spell/ activate an ability after combat damage is assigned but before a creature is put into a graveyard? for example, if someone were to attack into a massacre wurm with a 4/4, would i be able to flicker the wurm after damage is dealt to make the attacking player lose 2 life when his creature dies? or would his creature already be in the graveyard by the time massacre wurm hit the field?

There is no time in between creatures assigning combat damage and that damage being dealt when players can take action. You can’t have Massacre Wurm assign its damage, then flicker it before it receives damage.

With that said, if your opponents’ creatures die at the same time Massacre Wurm dies, they will “see” each other die and Massacre Wurm’s ability will still trigger. Massacre Wurm being dead doesn’t stop its trigger from resolving.

Havengul Lich says "You may cast target creature card in a graveyard this turn." Does this mean I can activate the ability AND cast a creature from a graveyard on my opponents turn even if the creature I'm casting doesn't have flash?

Not exactly. Havengul Lich’s ability overrides the normal rules on from where you can cast creature cards, but doesn’t change the limitations on when you can cast those cards.

Once you’ve used the Lich’s ability on a card in a graveyard, you still can only cast that card at the normal times you could cast it. (If it doesn’t have flash, that means during your own turn, during a main phase, when the stack is empty.)
