What really ticks me off about Dragons Rising is how much Wyldfyre has been just reduced to comic relief. Don’t get me wrong, she’s hilarious and I love all of her jokes and running gags throughout the show, but she needs more than that.
I want her to have a meaningful character arc. Now I know, she’s had a few really good ones, but they have always been sidelined or reduced to two or three episodes long. There was her whole learning that her pranks weren’t always funny in season 1, the broken leg arc, and her reaction to Kai’s sacrifice. All of those have had impact on her and have been really good storylines, but they’ve all not lived up to their full potential. Especially the Kai arc was wasted because they could’ve showed her grief and reaction in amazing ways, but it was cut off by the tournament and Roby (don’t get me wrong, I love Robyfyre, they’re hilarious and adorable). Even when Cinder got a reaction out of her about it it was reduced to her hot temper and made her throw a fight. It had so much potential, especially after the first episode where it showed her becoming reckless and trying to be the red ninja, but was kinda ruined.
So far, all the other young ninja have had some kind of meaningful arc. Arin had his whole parent thing and when he went with Ras (once again, not complaining, I love Arin). Sora had her whole parent thing and everything in Impirium with her true potential thing in season 1 (this time a little complaining. I like Sora, but she seriously gets on my nerves sometimes). The only exception would be Frak ig (he also needs an arc, he’s amazing), but he’s had that thing with his dad, and from the looks of things, it’s not over yet. Even Riyu, the literal dragon who CANNOT TALK has had more big arcs than Wyldfyre! When he learned to fly, when he almost died and saved Umbrasilvis, and when he learned spinjitzu and saved Sora, Frak, and Wyldfyre (which would’ve been a great arc for Wyfy. She almost had Kur there at the end, and it would’ve been great for Wyfy to defeat her since she decayed Roby).
All I want if for Wyldfyre to get an actual meaningful arc. I had hope for s4p2 when the sets were released, with her new suit and a set dedicated to her. The last time she got a new suit was when she got an arc with Kai’s sacrifice, and I had hoped maybe this meant something for her, but now that the supposed episode titles and descriptions have dropped on rotten tomatoes, I’m losing hope. All of the other young ninja were mentioned by name in the descriptions (except Euphrasia ig but she’s still not officially a ninja). Sora especially got mentioned several times in ways that, to me at least, seem to indicate that she will be the focus AGAIN, especially with her whole parent thing. I’m really not looking forward to another Sora centric season and really just want Wyldfyre to have something. It’s been three years, please just give her an arc!

This story came to mind after someone requested a quick prompt featuring my OC Hakari. And it dawned on me that I’d never actually posted any stories featuring the young ninja, so I thought this might be a chance to fix that with this short, kinda fluffy comedy bit.
It was late afternoon as the two youths traveled through the woodland trail. Leading the way was a young, pale-skinned ninja with almost bleached-like blond hair, with blue eyes, and a tight green mask that concealed his face from the nose down. He was dressed in a tight-fitting black spandex pants with green-armored shin guards. And apart from a green chest-plate and green wrist guards with black sleeves that stopped at his biceps, his upper body was bare, exposing his slender but toned and muscular body.
His name was Hakari, and as he led the way, there was a slightly strained look on his face. “Mph, come,” he spoke in a youthful but stoic and mature tone, “...won’t be long before it’s dark.”
Hakari’s companion, a young woman with short brown hair, dressed more like a conventional mercenary, camouflage pants, a sleeveless tanktop with fingerless gloves, and sporting a few flash bombs around her belt, just smirked and waved her hand dismissively. “Awww, what’s the matter, lizard lips? Afraid’uh the dark?”
Hakari scoffed softly and said, “Hardly. But I’d rather get you to your employer sooner rather than later.”
The woman, Nara, just smirked to herself as the two continued down their path and said, “And here I was, thinkin’ I was charmin’ company.” She then grinned toothily back at Hakari and innocently added, “...Or is this one’uh those ‘thirty minutes or the delivery’s free’ kinda deals?"
Hakari simply rolled his eyes but kept marching onward, un-distracted by Nara’s teasing, and trying his best not to be distracted by a cramp he was feeling. The young ninja grimaced again as he subtly rested his hand atop his bare stomach, rubbing it softly. Though Hakari’s abdomen was firm and sporting a defined six-pack, it also appeared as if his abs were a bit thinned out, and that his normally concave stomach was pushing out a little.
He really had tried to keep his Saurian hunger under wraps around the young woman he was accompanying. After all, most of his kind were known for possessing rather ravenous appetites. Hence one of their more notable specialties, when it came to making targets disappear...something Hakari could never bring himself to do, despite having the ability. But when just eating food, it was hard to control himself. Granted, he had been doing a good job around Nara, monitoring his food intake anytime the two had lunch during their journey...which was just as well, seeing as how Nara ate like a pig.
But eating so little so frequently seemed to catch up with Hakari as, having very recently eaten lunch together, Hakari may have eaten a lot more than he intended. And now, whether he ate too fast or too much, something wasn’t sitting right in his gut. The young ninja winced with pain as he felt a tight cramp in his midsection, then started attempting to subtly rub the cramp away.
However, as Hakari’s hand ran up and down his belly, he felt it gurgle deeply, making him grimace some more until that gurgling rose up his throat. Eyes widening, Hakari immediately brought a fist to his mouth and prevented a burp from escaping his mouth, causing his masked cheeks to puff out before the pressure went back down.
Hearing a strange sound, Nara blinked and looked back at Hakari. “Did’ju hear somethin’?”
Clamping a hand over his masked mouth, Hakari held back another burp trying to force its’ way out of his mouth. Hakari grunted, glad that reptiles lacked sweat glands, so even in his human form, he wouldn’t appear too distressed. “Urf, mph, I’m fine...”
“Ya don’t sound fine,” Nara insisted, before stopping and adding, “well...okay, maybe ya DO sound fine, just...y’know, the other fine. Like fiiiiine, y’know what I mean?”
Even in his pained state, Hakari stopped and gave Nara a rather deadpanned glance.
Nara scratched the back of her head and added, “...can I rephrase that?”
Hakari just sighed to himself and continued marching on, one hand still grasping his belly all the while as they walked.
But unfortunately, the more they walked, the worse that cramp in his gut started to feel. The teenage ninja could feel it burbling more aggressively, making it harder not to flinch and recoil in pain. And the more it gurgled, the harder it was to hold back the pressure trying to rush up his gullet.
*GWWWUUUUUUUUUUURRRRBBBL!!!!*
Again, a deep, gaseous gurgling emanated from Hakari’s abdomen, but this time, it was so loud, even Nara could hear it.
“Holy crap, was that YOU, Lizard Lips?” Nara rushed over besides Hakari, then saw he appeared a little green in the proverbial gills, one hand clutching and the other grasped over his masked mouth. Suddenly, her expression shifted with concern for her companion. “...Dude, ya really don’t look so good...”
Grimacing as he tried to hold back another rush of pressure, Hakari glanced back at Nara and said, “Urgh, I told you, I’m-FIIIIIIIINE!!!” Unfortunately, he spoke before the pressure could pass, and as a result, the poor bloated ninja accidentally belched out the last part of his sentence. Loudly.
Hakari’s eyes went wide, and even with his cheeks concealed by his green half-mask, the blush on his face was clear as day.
Nara blinked with surprise at Hakari’s gaseous outburst.
Then, after a few moments of stunned silence, she promptly burst into a fit of snickers. “Pffffft! Bahahahahaha!!! Damn, Lizard Lips! Didn’t know you had it in ya! Hahahaha!”
Still blushing furiously, Hakari stifled another belch, one with reverberated quite audibly within his puffed out cheeks, before grimacing and hitting his chest a few times. “Mph, p-pardon me,” Hakari muttered a tone that was both annoyed and humiliated at the same time.
“Hey, don’t be sorry,” Nara said still snickering with amusement. “That was impressive!”
“No, it was crude,” Hakari replied, earning another snicker from Nara.
“Like I said, impressive!” Then, Nara settled down and looked Hakari over. Seeing how he was grasping his churning belly, she frowned softly and took Hakari’s hand away, before gently resting her own hand against Hakari’s stomach.
Immediately, Hakari’s eyes widened as his blush intensified. “Wh-What on earth are you doing...?!” Hakari demanded to know, voice notably more flustered than before.
But Nara just continued feeling Hakari’s belly beneath her palm. It was firm, as one could be expected, but in spite of being noticeably bloated, it was also incredibly taut and tight to the touch. The young ninja had eaten quite a bit, she noted to herself. Then, she could feel a deep, gaseous gurgling rumble from the very depths of his gut.
“So that’s what’s been buggin’ you all this time...”
“...I-It’s just a bellyache, n-nothing I can’t manage,” Hakari insisted, voice still considerably flustered from Nara’s touch.
“You were eatin’ like ya ain’t eaten in months during lunch. Guessin’ ya probably ate way too fast. So now yer gut’s got all this pressure that needs releasin’,” Nara observed, still feeling Hakari’s belly up.
“...I can just ride it out until it passes,” Hakari insisted.
Nara cocked a brow back at Hakari quizzically. “Yeah, but...why would’ja WANT to? Just get a couple’uh burps out’n you’ll be right as rain!” Nara insisted, giving Hakari’s belly a few playful pats for emphasis.
Again, Hakari’s eyes widened, since all that patting worked up a large pressure pocket. Desperately, Hakari quickly concealed his masked mouth with both hands, as a DEEP sounding burp puffed out his cheeks and rumbled intensely within his mouth for a few seconds. When it ended, Hakari swallowed the pressure back down and grimaced with discomfort.
Nara saw how red Hakari’s face was getting, even beneath his mask, then snorted. “Dude, are you afraid to burp in front’uh me or somethin’?? That’s adorable!”
Hakari glanced back at Nara with an annoyed but embarrassed look in his eyes. “Th-That’s not it!” He insisted a little too defensively. “...I-I just...t-try to mind my manners is all...”
Again, Nara snorted and waved her hand dismissively as she said, “Oh, manners schmanners. I was burpin’ like a freakin’ FOGHORN everytime we had lunch! Hell, remember last time? I let out a burp so huge, I scared off a couple’uh birds!”
Even in his flustered state, Hakari still gave Nara a rather deadpanned, unamused look.
“...I remember...you were quite pleased with yourself...”
Nara just grinned toothily and said, “Sure was! Point bein’, ya don’t hafta be all embarrassed. If it’ll make ya feel better, just get it outta yer system! Here, I’ll even give ya a hand! Here, sit down.”
Nara sat Hakari down, resting his back against the trunk of a sizeable tree, then sat down next to him. And before Hakari could ask what Nara had in mind, she pressed her palm firmly into Hakari’s gut. Almost immediately, a deep gurgling emanated as Hakari felt a surge of pressure rushing aggressively up his throat. He tried to hold it back, making his masked cheeks puff out, but this time, there was just too much pressure to hold back. And try as he might, eventually, Hakari just couldn’t hold it back any longer...
“BWWAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRP!!!!!!”
A HUGE, rumbling belch exploded past Hakari’s lips, rumbling out of his mouth for a good few seconds straight, and with enough force behind it to cause the front of his mask to push out and ripple aggressively. When it finally ended, Hakari lurched forward, gasping breathlessly as he glanced back at Nara with both an annoyed expression on his face...in spite of how red his face was. But Nara was all grins as she gave Hakari a thumbs up and snickered some more.
“Hehe, GOOD one, Lizard Lips!”
“Mph! Th-There was nothing GOOD about tha-aaaAAAAUUuUUUUuurrrp!!!” Hakari complained, only to cut his own complaint off with another considerable belch, one that rumbled wetly past his lips. That was courtesy of Nara, who pressed Hakari’s belly as he was in the middle of speaking. Again, his cheeks only burned brighter. “N-Nara...!”
“Whaaaat?” Nara asked innocently. “Look, ya wanna get back to my camp before dark, right? But how efficiently d’ya think we’re gonna move if yer draggin’ yer heels ‘cuz of a bellyache of all things? If ya get all this outta yer system NOW, you’ll feel better, and move along faster. Ain’t that the name’uh the game?”
Hakari opened his mouth to retort, but when he did, he stopped and thought about what Nara had said. It was true, he was lagging quite a bit ever since lunch. He was trying to slow his pace since too much movement was murder on his aching gut.
He hated...HATED to admit it, but Nara was right.
The blond teen looked away with a deeply embarrassed blush and said, “...Let’s just get this over with...”
Nara grinned and said, “Aye-aye!”
Sure enough, she pressed firmly into Hakari’s gut again, but no burp followed. Hakari simply grimaced from the press, then glanced back curiously. Nara felt around Hakari’s belly some more then frowned thoughtfully.
“Huh, guess I gotta look fer the tense part,” she muttered, before continuing to feel all around Hakari’s firm, tight stomach. Nara removed her gloves, leaving her palms bare as they ran all across Hakari’s aching stomach. But as Nara inadvertently started rubbing Hakari’s belly, the young ninja couldn’t help but shudder with blissful delight.
Hakari’s arms went limp to his sides, his back arched, making his physically toned but slightly bloated gut push out more, while Hakari’s eyelids went at half-mass. He’d never had his belly rubbed before, certainly not like this.
And as much as he hated to admit it...the sensation was AMAZING...
This went on for a few minutes, of Nara rubbing Hakari’s belly in search of the tense portions and Hakari in a blissful trance. That was until Nara grinned and said, “Ah! Gotcha!” Then, she pressed firmly against the right hand side of Hakari’s lower belly.
“BWOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRP!!!!!”
“HUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRP!!!!!”
Out expelled another embarrassingly loud belch, one that rumbled out of Hakari’s mouth for four seconds straight, and was followed immediately by a shorter, but MUCH louder eructation. When it ended, Hakari gasped, still blushing with embarrassment as he looked away and said, “...Urgh, this is so juvenile...”
“Oh, c’mon, ya ain’t even TWENTY yet, Lizard Lips! You can afford to be a lil juvenile here’n there!”
“Age has nothing to do with it,” Hakari insisted before adding, “such vulgar behavior isn’t becoming of a ninja. If my elders saw this, it would be shameful!”
“Uhhh-huh,” Nara said in a bored tone before holding up a finger and adding, “these the same elders who called you weak ‘cuz ya didn’t wanna kill nobody?”
Hakari glared back at Nara, but then, looked down uncertainly, almost shamefully. He still carried himself like his clan had brought him up to do, but the fact is, he couldn’t be what was asked of him. Hakari was trained to be a hardened killer for the greater good, but as skilled and dangerous as he Hakari was, taking another life just wasn’t something he was capable of doing. And in his mind, or rather, what his clan had him believe, that was weakness, something to be ashamed of, since one’s enemies would never show that same weakness, and sparing the enemy could also result in more loss of life.
Nara simply shook her head and said, “Dude, ya gotta stop bein’ so hard on yerself. Like, I may not know ya very well, but I get what’cher feelin’. Yer at, ummm, what’s the word...oh! A crossroads! Yer tryin’ to figure out who ya really are, right?”
Hakari simply nodded.
“Then figure yerself out’n stop worryin’ so much ‘bout what yer old clan would think or want. Just do yer own thing. And part’uh that means lettin’ loose if ya hafta let loose. I mean, yer gut feels better now, am I right?”
Hakari rested his own palm against his stomach, feeling around it in thought. It was still burbling uncomfortably, but to Hakari’s surprise, the ache in his belly had subsided considerably. His bright blue eyes widened slightly at this realization as he glanced down at his midsection and said, “...Actually, I...DO feel a little better...”
“Just a bit, huh?” Nara asked with an impish grin on her face.
Hakari knew exactly what that mischievous grin meant. And before he could warn Nara not to do what she was going to do...she shoved both hands against Hakari’s muscular yet distended belly and gave it a firm push. This time, Hakari’s eyes went wide as a large pressure pocket came surging up Hakari’s throat, enough to actually make his slender, black spandex concealed throat actually bulge with a sizeable lump that rose up from his armored collarbone and into his mouth.
Hakari’s mouth gaped open, stretching his half-mask out as an utterly COLOSSAL belch exploded out of his maw, rumbling intensely for several seconds straight and carrying enough force that it almost looked like the pressure was going to blast the mouth part of Hakari’s mask clean open. The eruption was so loud that several birds fluttered away, startled by the ear-piercingly loud sound, and Nara would’ve sworn she felt the ground quiver in its’ wake.
When it finally ended, Hakari lurched forward, exhausted as he smacked his chest firmly. “Urgh...pardon me...eeeeEEUUUUUuuurrrp!” Hakari murmured in an exhausted tone, letting out one last rumbling burp for emphasis. He was too winded to be embarrassed by this point.
And Nara was too busy clutching her sides and laughing hysterically to hear it.
“BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAA!!!!! JEEZ! You tryin’ to DEAFEN me ‘ere, Mister Manners?! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!” Nara could barely choke out between her fits of laughter.
Hakari, still panting breathlessly, just watched Nara laughing up a storm. And, after a while, he started chuckling softly as well. Then, his chuckling grew a little louder. Eventually, Hakari grabbed his stomach and just started laughing and shaking his head with amusement at the ridiculous situation, and just how amused Nara herself was.
The two youths just sat there in the middle of the woods, holding their sides and laughing like a pair of kids before eventually settling down.
“Oh ho ho hoooo man, remind me to NEVER give you a soda,” Nara murmured, wiping her eyes.
Hakari chuckled still and shook his head. “H-Heh, I don’t even know what on earth I was laughing about...and I don’t even care, hehe.”
“Feels good, don’t it?” Nara said with a grin.
Hakari nodded thoughtfully. “Indeed...and my stomach no longer aches either,” Hakari remarked, patting his stomach firmly for emphasis.
“Well, good! Now, whadduya say we get over to the camp? I bet they heard that from miles away’n think a bomb went off!” Nara murmured, snickering at her own joke as she hopped up to her feet, slipped her gloves back on, and offered her hand to help Hakari up.
The young ninja looked up at the hand being offered to him, then back at Nara. After a moment, Hakari smiled softly then took her hand, hoisting himself up with a boost from the young mercenary. And before long, the two were on the dirt road again.
Hakari had to admit, though she was often a handful, Nara wasn’t bad company to have around. Though he was very much a loner, he hadn’t laughed that hard since he was a child. In fact, he hadn’t had any real friends since he was a child either.
...It was nice feeling that again...
“...Nara,” Hakari remarked quietly, earning a glance back from the young woman. “I was wondering,” Hakari started, rubbing his bicep and looking away as he spoke. “After we reach your camp...might your group need any more assistance...?”
“Assistance?” Nara asked quizzically. “Nah, I don’t think so. Mainly just kickin’ back ‘til someone in need comes to us with a new job.”
“...Oh...yes, of course,” Hakari remarked, clearing his throat and resuming the walk together. He was a ninja after all, and very able to mask whatever he was feeling. Disappointment was something he was more than used to masking.
But Nara could still sense it, even if Hakari didn’t show it. So, she simply smirked back at her travel companion and added, “...Course, if ya wanna hang out with us fer a bit til ya move on wherever yer goin’, that’s cool too.”
He didn’t show it immediately, but there was a look of gratitude on Hakari’s face as he simply nodded back and said, “...That...that would be nice. Provided it’s no inconvenience, of course.”
“Pffft, naaaah, yer good, Lizard Lips,” Nara said playfully. Then, her grin turned impish as she turned and gave Hakari’s firm belly an equally firm pat and added, “And with pipes like yers, I bet you’d KILL it in our next burpin’ contest.”
Once again, Hakari’s expression turned a little more deadpanned.
Ishimaru stayed as still as he possibly could, listening for any movement outside of the closet he was hiding in. He didn’t know where the others were but he hoped that they were not in a similar situation to himself. The young ninja had been chosen to come with them on this assignment after all and he wanted to prove himself for his clan. Most people did not think he was capable after all with his blindness but he knew he could do it if he focused. Effort was important with everything after all.
He tensed as he heard someone enter the room though, pulling himself into a disguised stance in case they opened the closet and staying as quiet as he could. Though he couldn’t stop how much he was trembling and hoped that whoever had entered would not discover him. His worst fear came to pass as he sensed the door opening and felt them looking at him, unable to respond. Why... Why couldn’t he do anything right?
