So, to no one’s surprise the next part of Dragons Rising leaked AGAIN. I had planned on waiting till the release date to actually watch it, but I saw a spoiler for the ending almost instantly and caved. So here are my thoughts! Well, mostly my thoughts on one specific part, which is kinda a follow up to my last post. obviously, spoilers ahead! Be warned!

I’m really on the fence about where they took Wyldfyre in this season. At first, I was ecstatic. They finally made her leader of the New Ninja! They voted, she won, it was fair, and I was stoked. I couldn’t wait to see her lead them like she did in the Land of Eternal Dawn. Like I said in my last post, she’s always been sidelined, reduced to comic relief, and underestimated (especially in Djinnjago when they awoke the Arc Dragon of Focus. Frak and Sora were really screwing that up and it wasn’t until Wyldfyre intervened that they actually woke it.) But finally, FINALLY at long last she would get the respect and attention she deserves!

and then they went and ruined it! They had to play into the comic relief, making her all cocky and full of herself! And I wouldn’t have minded it if it wasn’t her entire personality this season! That’s always part of her and I love it, but they were really heading somewhere good with her in part one, but they threw it all down the drain! the worst part is that they honestly made her a terrible leader. It ended up that Sora kept unofficially taking over and that ticked me off. Wyldfyre is a good leader! We saw that in part one! Why did they have to throw that all away for comic relief?

there were a couple times I was getting really hopeful she would get better. I thought maybe she would learn over time to be better. That part where she meditated the two delegates and got them to stop arguing, and Arin acknowledged it might actually go somewhere. When Euphrasia and my Poor Sidelined Pixal got “eaten” by Cryptor in the big dragon mech, and she was left in the cloud kingdom with Riyu I thought it would be up to her to save the day. When Arin and Sora were getting buried by those bug things and Wyldfyre was the only Ninja (besides Riyu) left standing, I thought she would save the day and finally be appreciated. But NO.

Wyldfyre’s my favorite New Ninja and it pains me to see her not get an arc. Like I said in my last post, all the other New Ninja, have gotten an arc. Like I predicted, Frak still had more stuff with his dad this season and even got his own entire episode! I NEED her to get an actual arc or something! Heck, she didn’t even get that new suit from the Transforming Dragon Mech set in the show!

Maybe I’ll just have to wait until dragons rising ends and they finally address her backstory. Surely they can’t sideline her in her own backstory right? …right…?

Willabeth x Jaya similarities

As of yesterday (more like this morning, I was up until 5am watching the last two), I have officially seen all of the Pirates of The Caribbean movies, and recently I was brought back to this super cool Ghost Pirate Cole fanart and now it has me thinking about a POTC X Ninjago AU I have lots of ideas for but will probably never write.

Starting off strong, I remember thinking during the wedding battle at the end of AWE that it was SO Jaya. Honestly, all of Will’s and Elizabeth’s relationship is very Jaya coded. Here are a few similarities I noticed:

-Him being a hopeless loverboy who's good at making things and her also being a hopeless lovergirl but trying to be nonchalant about it (she's failing) who's more interested in the movie/show's main gig (pirate/ninja) than even he is at first but both of them becoming a kick-butt couple who's just trying to be happy together but keep getting caught up in the plots shenanigans.

-Both Will and Jay starting off not knowing who their bio parents are, then finding out one of them was deeply and intricately connected with the group he is running with now but has been dead/missing for years.

-The whole Skybound season being based around pirates and Jay and Nya are the focus. Heck, one of them even straight up dies at the end and only a twist of magic can bring them back.

-There's the other "bound" season where the climax is one of them being "cursed" and bound to the sea, never to set foot on land as they start losing their sense of self.

Basically what I'm saying is, I need a fanfiction where it's all the POTC movies rolled into one big fic with Ninjago characters as the overstuffed main cast.

What really ticks me off about Dragons Rising is how much Wyldfyre has been just reduced to comic relief. Don’t get me wrong, she’s hilarious and I love all of her jokes and running gags throughout the show, but she needs more than that. 

I want her to have a meaningful character arc. Now I know, she’s had a few really good ones, but they have always been sidelined or reduced to two or three episodes long. There was her whole learning that her pranks weren’t always funny in season 1, the broken leg arc, and her reaction to Kai’s sacrifice. All of those have had impact on her and have been really good storylines, but they’ve all not lived up to their full potential. Especially the Kai arc was wasted because they could’ve showed her grief and reaction in amazing ways, but it was cut off by the tournament and Roby (don’t get me wrong, I love Robyfyre, they’re hilarious and adorable). Even when Cinder got a reaction out of her about it it was reduced to her hot temper and made her throw a fight. It had so much potential, especially after the first episode where it showed her becoming reckless and trying to be the red ninja, but was kinda ruined. 

So far, all the other young ninja have had some kind of meaningful arc. Arin had his whole parent thing and when he went with Ras (once again, not complaining, I love Arin). Sora had her whole parent thing and everything in Impirium with her true potential thing in season 1 (this time a little complaining. I like Sora, but she seriously gets on my nerves sometimes). The only exception would be Frak ig (he also needs an arc, he’s amazing), but he’s had that thing with his dad, and from the looks of things, it’s not over yet. Even Riyu, the literal dragon who CANNOT TALK has had more big arcs than Wyldfyre! When he learned to fly, when he almost died and saved Umbrasilvis, and when he learned spinjitzu and saved Sora, Frak, and Wyldfyre (which would’ve been a great arc for Wyfy. She almost had Kur there at the end, and it would’ve been great for Wyfy to defeat her since she decayed Roby). 

All I want if for Wyldfyre to get an actual meaningful arc. I had hope for s4p2 when the sets were released, with her new suit and a set dedicated to her. The last time she got a new suit was when she got an arc with Kai’s sacrifice, and I had hoped maybe this meant something for her, but now that the supposed episode titles and descriptions have dropped on rotten tomatoes, I’m losing hope. All of the other young ninja were mentioned by name in the descriptions (except Euphrasia ig but she’s still not officially a ninja). Sora especially got mentioned several times in ways that, to me at least, seem to indicate that she will be the focus AGAIN, especially with her whole parent thing. I’m really not looking forward to another Sora centric season and really just want Wyldfyre to have something. It’s been three years, please just give her an arc!

Yknow how Wyldfyres voice changed over time from being deeper & gruff to more natural and high pitched? Kazumi said that over time the voice changed naturally as Wyldfyre's language became more eloquent

Personally, I interpreted her voice changing over time as her switching to her natural voice over time. Back when she didnt trust the ninja as much & was afraid of showing weakness, her voice was closer to the sounds dragons make to seem more intimidating.

I think its also cool if she did it unintentionally, her immediate response to try and sound tough is to deepen her voice without thinking. I wonder how y'all headcanon this (〃ﾟ3ﾟ〃)

Saw someone hating on nya cuz she doesn't say "I love you" to jay as much as he does to her. Well not at all actually 😭

So obviously this is a bad writing issue. No way she would go years without telling him until it's too late🙏

But honestly it's not even that far off. I mean I can see her struggling with this kind of affection. Just think about it. Her parents got kidnapped when she was js a toddler. Nya obviously didn't grow up with much parental attention and love. No wonder she has problems expressing this feeling.

Kai wasn't that affectionate either. He was also just a child even tho he was older. They probably hugged on nights where they felt alone or held hands when going to the market so they wouldn't lose each other. That would also explain why she's touchy with Jay instead of saying the L word.

I headcanon that the weather does sometimes respond to Nya's emotions, but in a way that kind of defies the stereotypical "rain means sad, sun means happy" pattern.

When Nya's happy, when there's an extra bounce in her step and she can't stop smiling, that's when it rains. Light and sweet to fill the world with that rich soil smell. The kind of rain that sends the whole world to glittering, and she can't resist twirling in it.

If she's mad? The sky goes as dry as the desert. Sure, her frustration can make rivers bubble up and currents switch directions, but her true fury shows by withholding rain from the ground. She's going to make people regret it and come begging for mercy.

Sadness, and especially grief, shows itself in thick clouds and a light mist. Everything is heavy and gloomy, but without the freedom of a full release- at least, not until she's ready to let it all out. Then it pours, rain dense enough to soak you with one drop, but there's something beautiful about that too- that acknowledgment of pain.

And of course, it often storms whenever she and Jay are together. While searching for him across the Merged Lands, Nya would often hear faint rumbles of thunder or catch distant flashes of lightning. She'd rush off in their direction- only to just miss Rogue without realizing he'd been there moments before her. During their tournament battle, a heavy storm had brewed, only to abruptly disperse when she won. And Nya thought she was constantly hearing distant thunder while Jay stayed with them at the monastery and helped search for Arin's parents, even if it never amounted to anything.

But when they finally got back together and Jay's memories returned? The Administration experienced some most unauthorized weather during their first kiss.

A new generation of ninja!

Allmost caught up with Dragons Rising and I can’t stop thinking about Jay and I hope things keep being messy with him. Like he’s already got a job to catch Ras, and even with his memories coming back he did still shatter his goodness and I think it’d be really neat if that in particular has more long lasting impacts that the other’s don’t realize yet. A Jay who remembers his time as a Ninja, who everyone thinks will be fine now, getting caught up in a fight and showing brutality that catches everyone off guard. Still trying to go for the kill when that’s not what they do.

Just… Still trying to pick up the pieces from what happened to him and Nya still sticking by him because she’s lost him for too long. She isn’t going to let him isolate himself again.
