I knew I was bisexual from the age of 13. The first place I felt free to express it was in college, particularly when I lived in a student co-op with several other LGBTQ people, from age 19-20. In September of that year I took a term off of school and drove around the country by myself. I was told, “You can’t DO that!” but I knew that I could. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Here’s a self-portrait I took during that trip with my little point-and-shoot Canon balanced on a round trashcan lid with the timer set.
