• A young farmer from Ermelo is serving as an inspiration to South Africans and she's gaining respect from those around her • The young lady went from selling fish and chips for a living to owning and running farms • #NjabuloMbokane's success came with a lot of risks and hard work but she's showing that achieving your dreams isn't impossible She started off with an interest in agriculture and that became her passion, but only a little later in life. Njabulo sold russians, fish and chips on a street corner near schools for a living. It wasn't a bad way to earn money, she earned about R400 a day, according to W24. However, that wasn't fulfilling and she soon pursued #agriculture. The determined young lady didn't have much knowledge so she would visit farms to learn more. "I would go to farms, even if I didn’t even know what they were busy doing there. I was very curious and most of the time I would hitch-hike, which is very dangerous for a young female." Later, she approached #WinnieNkabinde, who had 70 hectares of unused land, and rented it for her farming aspirations. That did not go as planned. "I did not harvest on time and knew nothing about the market. All my beans were dying, and cattle would come around and graze on them." However, she didn't give up. In 2017, Njabulo got herself a learnership and studied at #PeritumAgriInstitute. Then she got to partner with Mr. Ntuli. They started with 15 hectares. The #youngfarmer did so well that she took a risk and rented a bigger farm that is closer to her home. She now gives work to 15 people and wants to grow her #farms. She manages to make about 6 tonnes of maize per hectare. The inspiring young woman also won the #SAB Young Emerging #Farmer of the Year #Award for 2019.
