Interview #32
Miranda Barnes
Who do you most admire? Anyone that tries to better themselves and live life to the fullest.
What did you want to be when you were younger? A professional ice-skater haha.
Where are you now? A point in my life where I'm actually really excited for what the future holds.
What makes a great photo? Man, I don't know. Defining what a "good" photograph is hard because everyone has an opinion. Really don't think there's an answer for that.
Film or digital, why? Got love for both of them but I most definitely use film more regularly. I like to train my eye and it's impossible to really do that when you have the ability to take 300 photos in 10 minutes. It also breaks the ice when I don't know the subject too well, like "Oh you shoot film? How’ s that like?" or something. You're able to make conversations. It's easier to shoot when both the subject and I are comfortable. Don't get me wrong though, film has its drawbacks. But I truly love that feeling of not knowing what you captured until you get the roll back. It's like a surprise every time and it helps you focus on the moment when you are taking the photo.
Are you normally early or late? The early bird gets the worm.
If you had to live with any historical figure for a month, who would you choose? Frank Sinatra or Zelda Fitzgerald.
Money or fame? $$$
What did you have for breakfast? Just green tea for now.
Who are your heroes? People. Extremely flawed, but there's nothing better than hearing about someone doing something out of the goodness of their heart.
Do you have any other creative hobbies/occupations? Does having the ability to watch marathons of Law & Order SVU and Seinfeld for hours straight count?
Favourite possession? My grandmother's jewellery, but my mom almost never lets me wear any of it because I would probably lose something. (Hi mom!)
What would you like to have accomplished within the next year? Travel somewhere domestic and abroad. Learn French fluently. Try to appreciate life more. Get better at working a camera (I'm taking my first film photography class this upcoming semester and I couldn't be more stoked).
