chief is incredibly and undeniably loyal to thomas rush.
the man saved his life. the man found him just on the cusp of death and fought to bring him back over the brink. he helped chief. he dedicated so much time to make sure that chief would live after that truly traumatic time chief had gone through. chief had seen how much effort thomas had put into GUARANTEEING that he would survive. not only that, once chief had fully healed, the man had given him a new arm and the choice if he wanted to stay or be dropped off at one of their settlements.

that was the day that chief decided that he would lay down his life for this man. to see that someone out here in this wasteland care about another person’s life so much made him come to sudden realization that he wanted to help this man’s cause. he would see it through that his message would reach all corners of this slowly-rebuilding world and that everyone would know of the name, thomas rush. chief didn’t care that he was a side character. he didn’t mind that he, more often was not, used to the harder work, protecting all of these people that needed the help. he was more than happy to pull his own weight and do what needed to be done.
