Do you remember that scene from Devilman Lady where the origin story of Satan was referenced? And specifically, it was recited as being the origin story according to Christians.

“When God made Adam, he commanded all to bow before his human creation. But one being did not. That one was Satan; he refused to submit before Adam as he claimed that he would not allow himself to be commanded by a creature made of clay and mud. For his disobedience, God kicked Satan out of Heaven.”

A pretty interesting story, huh?

There is just one problem.

That is the Islamic origin story of Satan. And the fact that Satan is depicted as an angel in the origin story (according to Go Nagai) is also incorrect. According to Islamic lore, it is regarded as one of the few religions that doesn’t believe that Satan was ever an angel. 

In Islamic lore, angels don’t have free will.But Satan did have free will; enough to disobey God. So this sets Satan apart from the angels who can not ever show disobedience or make choices for themselves. 

Islamic lore describes Satan as a “jinn” which is a spirit made out of fire; these beings were created by God- similarly to humans.

This is why Satan refused to bow to Adam.

Why did he- a creature made out of fire- have to bow down to a creature made out of mud? The full story makes a lot more sense, huh?
