BMO WORLD OF CREATIVITY: TIME TRAVEL TO THE CUBULAR GALAXY. Photos from when my brother @garrettpich and I visited the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) this past March 3 • AGA Staff, grade 4 students from Mount Royal School participated in a wide variety of activities, gallery visits, brainstorming discussions, and design charrettes aimed at broadening their understanding of art, exhibition design, and curatorial practice. Students created a number of evolving 2D and 3D prototypes, using traditional and non-traditional art materials, as well as beta testing and critical thinking strategies to refine their ideas. This child-led process culminated in a final design plan for the AGA team to implement. @youraga 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. More photos from when my brother @garrettpich and I visited the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) [part 4] this past March 3 • This breathtaking art gallery occupies a 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) building at Churchill Square in downtown Edmonton. Randall Stout, the architect chosen to design the AGA building, took inspiration from the city’s unique northern environment and urban grid. Stout juxtaposed angular windows against a winding 190-metre steel ribbon that references the forms of the North Saskatchewan River and Aurora Borealis. The building is itself a work of art that complements the exhibitions. @youraga 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Nests for the End of the World • the AGA (Art Gallery of Alberta) commissioned artists to envision and create a ‘nest’ to cope with the end of the world; however it may come about. From hopeful and optimistic to humorous and ironic, these ‘nests’ offer reprieve, refuge, rejuvenation and difficult truths. This timely exhibition is a response to our current tumultuous and polarized world where we see the rise of Nationalism, the clashing of belief systems, environmental destruction and the fight to mitigate climate change. Nests will spark conversations and inspire you to think about what your own personal nest might be, how you face current challenges both big and small, and what the future might look like. • one example that my brother @garrettpich and I experienced recently at the installation: Jake Chakasim Wapimisow: Trickster builds a nest for the end of the world • (upper left & lower right of #FotoQuartet )• an introspective creation that foregrounds Indigenous peoples’ capacities to adopt and transform through anthropogenic change.
