Having a yoyo as part of my #EDC, I've had all sorts of reactions from people--from LEOs wondering why I have a handcuff case (which my yoyo holster does resemble), to getting a free pizza just for throwing while awaiting my order. Today I had to go to the San Diego courthouse (a.k.a. The Hall of Justice--seriously). While I remembered to leave my #Spyderco in the car, I forgot that I had a #Leatherman tucked away in my pack. The security guard informed me that I wasn't allowed to bring it into the courthouse. While he genuinely wanted to help me solve the problem without me having to walk 7 blocks back to my car, all he could suggest was that I hide it outside the building, as he wasn't allowed to hold on to it for me. As I stood there for a moment, weighing my options, a couple Sheriff deputies caught my attention. Gesturing toward my belt, one of them asked, "What's that?" I stepped foward as I removed my yoyo from the holster, and the other deputy remarked, "Oh, it's a yoyo." "Yeah it is! You wanna see?" I offered. "Sure," they replied. Suddenly inspired, I quickly added, "Actually, I'd be happy to show you some tricks, if you wouldn't mind holding on to my Leatherman for me!" "Let's see that Leatherman," the first deputy responded. The security guard handed him the multitool, while I started throwing, deftly avoiding the other courthouse visitors. The deputies asked me a few questions about yoyoing, then the first one asked, "So you are relinquishing this to me? How long will you be?" "Hopefully no more than an hour," I answered. "Well, I might not be here in an hour. Are you sure you want to leave this with me?" I smiled and said, "It's better than trying to hide it in the bushes outside!" "Well, you better get to it, then," he suggested, tucking my Leatherman into his belt. I thanked him, and hurried upstairs. As it turned out, I was done in 20 minutes. I quickly headed downstairs. The deputy spotted me as I emerged from the hallway. As I approached, he told me he'd hand it to me outside, which he did. I shook his hand, thanked him, and left the Hall of Justice with a smile on my face. #YoyoLife #Kindness
