people are always like “i don't get why simon refused to intervene when wille pointed a gun at august” and... realistically there are multiple reasons to this but I've always fundamentally believed that it was this very act of wille that helped simon get a little bit of his trust in wille back!

simon spends a good majority of s2 feeling angry and hurt because wille doesn't have the courage to stand against his mother or the court. he doesn't have the courage to tell his true real feelings to the public. he's too much of a coward to FIGHT for them and simon is MAD and ANGRY and gets even angrier and more confused when he notices wille moving on and letting go and that's when the panic fully sets in. then wille lets him know that it was actually august who did all of this to them and simon is like..... oh!.... you betrayed me because..... you're prioritising protecting the person who ruined our relationship (WHO RUINED MY LIFE!!!!!!)

it's like a new betrayal all over again and it's only when he sees the lengths wille is willing to go, specifically threatening to KILL his own cousin (but also abdicating) to allow simon to receive some justice that he feels like he may be able to trust him again. idk if this is a controversial take but simon needed to see that, it was the only thing that could patch up things between them after wille's betrayal (however fucked up of a way it may've been)

An amazing detail in young royals I just caught is the second August tells someone (Sara) he’s gonna be Wille’s backup she almost immediately starts comparing him to Wille. At the dance Sara tells August that she doesn’t want to get hurt like how Wille hurt Simon and August says “Well I’m not Wille”. The constant comparison to Eric is one of the things that causes Wille the most pain and anguish about being in line for the thrown. August immediately getting his just desserts is truly incredible to see
