Ys X: Nordics (2024)
I found this up
I found this note for ys up and wondered if it would help anyone, but really it's just sort of talk I guess lol Ys So playing ys, I found that a lot of the bosses are kinda easy to beat (through I am playing on normal) Like the vampire/bat one, all I had to do was stay away from the bats (I sat in the corners and stayed there until the bats couldn't see me) The one with the two heads were annoying until I just stood in front of the big mirror and hacked at them when they came close, killed them in no time, and hardly got hurt. And that's the end of the little commentary I found up.
Have I ever mentioned on here how much I love the Ys games?
Like seriously. They have interesting (and fun) combat mechanics, fantastic story and characters, and unlike the FF series, are all actually connected. The main character, Adol Christin (pictured above), actually ages throughout the games. He’s 17 in the first 2 and 23 in the latest ones. The characters he meets and bonds he makes throughout the games keep popping up too. It’s a fantastic series of games, and if you want to pick them up, a chunk of them are on steam.
Here’s the order I’d recommend them in.
Ys I & II (Steam)
Ys: Origin (Steam) (While chronologically, this comes 700 years before 1 and 2, it’s better to play after since it was made with that in mind.)
Ys IV: Memories of Celceta (PS Vita and PSTV, may be coming to PC in the next year or so)
Ys III: The Oath in Felghana (Steam)
Ys V: Kefin, Lost City of Sand (SNES, translation patch)
Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim (Steam)
Ys Seven (PSP)
This is the chronological order. Yes, IV takes place before III. V and Seven can be emulated on PC. It’s only IV that can’t be played on PC at all. Playing in this order will bounce a bit between graphical styles and mechanics, but only due to the fact that some have been remastered while others have not.
I also highly recommend using a controller on the PC. The combat system in 1 and 2 specifically benefit from it greatly, but in general, it's easier to use one. I also recommend using a guide for 1 and 2, unless you talk to everyone/explore everywhere you're likely to miss some things.
I love these games. If you want to know anything about them, just ask.
