Best of 2022 - Mojo - The Top 10 The first “Best of 2022” lists are trickling in. MOJO is the first. Here is the Top 10. 7. Bill Callahan - Reality / Ytilaer „…As skilled, wise and quotable as ever, but with bonus good vibes.“ Wikipedia: „Ytilaer (stylized as YTI⅃AƎЯ) is a studio album by American musician Bill Callahan, released on October 14, 2022, by Drag City. It is the eighth solo studio album released under Callahan’s own name, and his nineteenth overall when including LPs released as Smog.“ „Regarding the album’s backwards title, Callahan noted, “a few years ago I was doing some drawing and very casually wrote reality backwards – just like you see on the album – and I thought that could be something someday. It was when I made this record I realised it was the perfect time to use it.“ „FBill Callahan (born June 3, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who has also recorded and performed under the band name Smog. Callahan began working in the lo-fi genre, with home-made tape-albums recorded on four-track tape recorders. Later he began releasing albums with the label Drag City, to which he remains signed today. His work, in addition to lo-fi music, has encompassed apocalyptic folk and gothic country.“ #billcallahan #ytilaer #mojo #mojoTop75 #mojotop752022 #Apocalypticfolk #gothiccountry #lo-fi #cratedigger #nowspinning #vinylporn #vinyladdict #vinylcollector #vinylcollection #vinylcollectionpost #vinyloftheday #record #recordcollection #recordplayer #lp #audiophile #onmyturntable #vinyl #vinyljunkie #instavinyl https://www.instagram.com/p/ClJAhWIsBuQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Song Review(s): Bill Callahan - “Coyotes” and “Natural Information”
One has no chorus. The other repeats the title 25 times.
One is “Coyotes” and the other is “Natural Information.” Together, they preview Bill Callahan’s YTILAER, out Oct. 14.
The former is brilliant, an acoustic-based, full-band mix of jazz and folk that intuits what Joni Mitchell might have done had she been a male baritone recording in 2022.
They say never wake a dreamer/maybe that’s how we die/I realize now that dreams are real/I wanted to tell you we tend to stick together/down through the generations/up through the archives, Callahan sings.
The latter is a gag, and not a particularly funny one, set to music as repetitive as the lyrics. And that seems unnecessary, as YTILAER is set to clock in at over an hour and “Natural Information” could’ve easily been nixed. It probably should have been.
