Seraph of the End relies too much on a reset button
So I was talking with @chaoticgaymess and tbh, ONS relies WAY too much on a reset button.
By reset button I mean bringing people back from the dead (even tho there is a consequence for it so the first time it happened aka Guren triggering the taboo wasn’t an overuse of said reset button)
Now we all know where the series is going and that the ending is probably going to be bringing the humans back to life. But honestly its a weak plot device as people who are dead should honestly stay dead AND it would most likely just trigger the taboo again aka back at square one and then MORE people will die.
So thats my hot take at the most obvious reset button, heres my opinion on other ones that have been somewhat talked about by the fandom or barely hinted at in the series itself.
This feels stupid. And even if it could happen, there should be a limit. Like a vampire could be turned back into a human before they drank blood of humans. But no, vampires should not be able to turn back into humans.
They are dead. Their bodies stopped working. Their heart stopped. So even if they turned back into humans somehow they are still basically dead unless somehow the body magically starts working again, which it honestly doesn’t do that especially after thousands of years.
Also, you can’t just suddenly alter your DNA to go back to exactly what it was before because I’m assuming turning into a vampire is like a virus where it changes your DNA in some way and you cannot easily undo that. It can happen easily with the way viruses work and the way vampires have been set up, but undoing that? Genuinely don’t know how that would work and be justified.
Being able to turn demons back into humans
Thiss shouldn’t be able to happen ever. Because first of all, demons have everything that applies to vampires but now they have gone mad, grown horns, and died as a vampire and became a demon.
If a demon is able to be turned back into a human that literally just makes no sense. And if it is possible, what about their personality? Is it still their demonic one? Like how is this all going to play out.
So yeah demons should not be able to turn back into humans. I could see it working with MAYBE turning them back into vampires but even then they can drink blood and not turn back into vampires so theres no point.
This is the only one I could see MAYBE being justified to some degree but thats taking a demon out of its cursed gear.
Now why do I think this shouldn’t have a reset button?
Well to start, the demon is bound in a weapon and is in there with a contract spell. Like... a demon... is trapped in a weapon. That already took years and years to perfect so yeah I don’t see being able to just oh so easily undo that.
Also those demons reside in the hearts of their masters/contractors so again, how is that going to work. That demon is literally in you. Like... just... its like its a spirit haunting you for forever. Also unless those demons have corpses or something where you can put them into their old bodies I definitely don’t see it working.
Because they don’t have bodies, so how can you take a tainted soul out of a weapon unless it has a host.
And before you can say that Mahiru and Noya were out of Guren’s body, they were manifested and still bound to him, not free. Theres a difference.
Theres no good way to justify Mahiru getting a full reset ESPECIALLY in her personality. Her personality was set in stone as soon as she became a vampire aka not the sweet innocent Mahiru. Her soul is tainted in every way possible; she was a human with a demon in her that was corrupting her, she became a vampire which is implied that it is a sin, and then she combined her heart with a demon aka Noya who deserved so much better and became a demon.
Also if Mahiru is somehow magically freed from Guren’s sword her heart is still combined with Noya so we don’t know how that would work outside of Guren’s body if Noya and Mahiru are magically pulled from his cursed gear because she combined herself with Noya.
Either way Mahiru’s situation especially just feels like total bullshit if she comes back with no consequence at all because her situation is something that shouldn’t be a possible reset and also shows that her actions have no consequence whatsoever because she can just come back exactly how she was no problem.
It doesn’t work like that
