A trope I love because it just breaks my heart is when a character loves someone more than they hate themselves and that's why they either exist or act

The few examples I can think of:

Megumi loving tsumiki more than he hated himself, him wanting to save her being his only purpose

Korosensei loving aguri more than he probably hated himself after his realisation of everything, doing it all in his last year to honour her wish and memory

Ace loving Luffy and everyone that loved him more than he hated himself, existing as a big brother to protect Luffy and wearing a piece of his loved ones with him everywhere he sailed

In Assassination Classroom, Korosensei's character development centers about him learning to embrace cringe

Hear me out

As Shinigami, he trains himself to have virtually no weakness, he is proficient at everything, no task is too great. And he kills - a gruesome job - while looking elegant because god forbid someone catches him at a bad angle. He also wields expressions to his will because emotions? Like embarrassment, or shame, or fear, or literally any human feeling at all? Cringe

Because of that he becomes arrogant. He thinks he is the perfect specimen. So when he trains Shinigami 2.0, he models the kid after himself. If the kid shows weakness, he beats it outta him. If the kid shows lack of proficiency, that's cringe, he shames it outta him.

But then when he meets Aguri, she tells him it's important to respect every student as their own person, not in spite of but BECAUSE of their cringe. And she also finds his cringe moments funny like when he's being 🙄, or sly, or accidentally too honest. She embraces his cringe and advices him to do the same for others.

The reason he succeeds with class 3E was exactly that.

Everyone in class kept being put down by their supposed "weaknesses" in other word cringe. But their cringe also makes up their strengths. Nagisa has such a shy presence he can sneak up on anyone. Karma is arrogant so he's motivated to back it up. Instead of ridiculing them, Korosensei embraces the cringe and helps them use it to their advantage.

Your cringe is you.

Embrace the cringe within yourself and others, that's how you become a good teacher
