Trying to come up with a name for the Playful Land proprietor/Owner of the Circus in my AU and here's me going crazy looking at baby name websites looking at Italian boy names for this absolutely irredeemable bastard that's kidnapping children and turning them into his own personal puppets.

That being said, I do want either his first or last name be a reference to the devil or demons as a line in the movie referenced a myth that if you go to the crossroads at midnight, the devil will make a deal with you.

But just GOD I HATE THIS GUY! I just HAD to make him the sorta Baron Kelvin character in this AU for FelloJo

I’m reading the Arise interview and there’s a bit that puzzles me.

(Warning: nagative opinions of Arise below; if you love the game you should probably blacklist the “arise critical” tag)

Tomizawa: I cannot comment on that at the moment since this is not something we have established yet, but many things could have happened. For example, we do not know of the life Alphen lead 300 years ago, and there are many parts of it we haven't actually set on paper yet. It's not that we don't want or plan to, but the stories presented in the game were as they were, and that was the priority. The same goes with Vholran's past. I know a lot of fans want to know the background of these characters, and we can try to answer those in the future, but we currently cannot make promises.

(Emphasis mine.) Maybe it’s a wording or translation issue, but... it kinda sounds like they have no fricking idea about their own settings and character backstories?? This is so weird.

Like, I know that for Xillia, and probably the other games too, they started by establishing the world history, then characters and their backstories in detail, before deciding on what to incorporate in the game. That’s why we often have so much extra trivia and new info in official guides or side novels, because it’s the perfect place to dump all the stuff that didn’t make it to the game.

Is Tomizawa saying that wasn’t the case for Arise, that they wrote the game’s script on the fly and are making up details afterwards? If so, that would certainly explain the total mess the game’s writing is, and how utterly shallow some characters are. Still, this is such a bizarre approach...

EDIT: OKAY reading the blurb in Japanese it looks better than I thought. It seems they did plan stuff, just didn’t implement them and are refusing to reveal them at the moment.

BriarRose thought: Christmas smoocharoo edition

When everyone passed out at Ramshackle, bellies full of delicious food and smiles plastered on their faces after a night full of yuletide joy, Malleus and Rosalie decided to take a little stroll in the garden taking in the majesty of the snow sparkling on the ground.

They were being followed however.

When the two of them cleared a little patch to sit down underneath a tree, Lilia decided to be cheeky. With a bit of magic, he made mistletoe grow above them.

However, seeing Rosalie's blushing face, he asked

"Does mistletoe hold a significant meaning in your world, Rosalie?"

As much as Rosalie's heart pounded, she choked back every bit of embarrassment she was feeling in the moment and told the fae prince a little story from her world.

"In short, in one tale from one of the northern countries, the goddess of love's son was killed by an arrow made from the plant. After his death, she vowed that Mistletoe would kiss anyone so long as it's never used as a weapon again. Her tears became the white berries on the branches and usually if a man sees a lone girl sitting underneath it..."

And cue Lilia snickering in the corner.

"Pucker up you little lovebirds~!" He laughed.

Rosalie once asked Malleus to take a photo from his eye level using the ghost camera and when she saw the picture...

Lilia may be shorter than her but good grief she was TINY compared to him!

Malleus literally sees Rosalie as a cat even prior to meeting Grim. In other words, he sees her like this

No lie I might commission a friend to draw a little piece that encompasses their wild romance (I also want to get back into IkeVil too and reread Al's story)

You know, we often think of the Chimeriad's relationship with the party in terms of the specific party member they're sorta "tied" to, but I've been thinking of other dynamics that would have been really good to explore.

An obvious one would be to develop Wingul and Elize's relationship more bc boosters, and tbh I was a bit disappointed when Wingul's side story had her interact with Nils instead of Wingul (esp since the game seemed to imply she knew him back them). (Like don't get me wrong, I love Nils, but he kinda took over Wingul's own side story and that's something I'm quite salty about actually.)

But it would have been really interesting to see Elize interact with Presa as well, about how they each handle their feelings of betrayal, or their situations as orphans, and their need to be loved (romantically or platonically).

Meanwhile Wingul, I think, as a lot in common with Leia. On the surface they're nothing alike, but they're both dealing with deep-seated insecurity issues--the need to be useful at all costs, even when that's not what their loved ones want or need from them.

I would have wanted Agria to remember Rowen as one of the few who treated her kindly among the Rashugal nobles when she was a child.

Jiao and Alvin, and how their mothers was everything to them, how they both survived as best as they could with the hand they were dealt, how they've tried/are trying to move past the bad things they've done and be better.

There's just a lot of good things to develop with those two groups. I wish the Chimeriad were still around for the sequel so we could see a little of that, tho knowing X2, they would have been kept to their pre-set relationships, but a girl can dream... At least there's fic 😆
