"Yume Nikki Fangames" and "Doom Clones"

Nobody calls Bioshock a Doom clone, and with good reason: Bioshock has only the broadest similarities to something like Doom in regard to mechanics and aesthetic. But early first person shooters were called just that, no matter their subject.

Nearby, we see Roguelikes. I don’t know anyone who has played the original Rogue, but the term has proved useful. It doesn’t imply a lack of originality but a similarity. One Roguelike can be–and is expected to be–quite different from another.

Which brings me to a term I’ve been thinking a lot about: the Yume Nikki Fangame. The name implies that a YNFG is just an extension of/ tribute to YN. Sometimes that’s true, but a YNFG can be more a set of rules and expectations than a “fan work.”

I propose that the term YNFG needs to go. What do we replace it with? I’ve got some ideas–perhaps Yumelike or Nikkilike–but these are just ideas. What’re your thoughts, reader?

hi i saw the album discourse and since i own nearly every album (all ver up to ymmday + one an ode), i have smth to say lol al1 is their best physical album bc it's an actual cloth-bound book. the effort that went into that mini is INSANE and they're so pretty with or without the dust jacket. i feel like the physical-ness of the album is what matters? i wish there were more albums with lids lol like nct empathy or txt tdc: magic. im tired of harlequin romance paperback albums (resonance 👀)

YES exactly. that album feels like a really well made book. Like an actual book and not something for an album. Like if they want me to spend all my money on their albums they should be putting that kind of effort into each one. And the fact that the cd's had members on them, and that the photoshoots were distinct but still felt like the same story was so wonderful. Al1 unmatched.
