Based on one of @xchoco-mixturex 's incorrect-quotes!
Gay-panic-Nise's so cute <3
Yuri and Nise in ep 1x12
what is the heterosexual explanation for this by someone who has never seen the show/read the manga ?
Oh oh! What about Yunise? :3
Okay okay, I'll explain -
I LOVE the idea of Yunise. But. I'm not a super fan of how it's written in the manga (let alone the anime)
I asked myself for a long time why it's missed its sparkle for me, because this is normally my jam in ship and. It's not because of lack of kisses, it's not because there is no "official" declaration of love. All of it would be welcome of course but, my biggest disappointment in this ship (but also in the relationships in general in Tenkuu Shinpan) is:
They don't talk.
For example, the tragic background of Mayuko? We, readers, know. But not Yuri. We know why Yuri is so attached to her big brother, but Mayuko doesn't know why he matters so much. And this could had been used for such interesting interactions!
Imagine Mayuko who doesn't understand why a family member could be an object to such adoration, for her who had been nothing but despised, abused and ignored by her family. It could have been so interesting for them to talk about it, Yuri being worried for Mayuko when she learn how she's treated before and explaining why she was so ruthless when they meet. Yuri being moved by Mayuko who decided to open her heart to her. It could even questioned on how the weird world of High-Rise Invasion somehow mirror in a grotesque way what happen in "real life".
Yuri promising she'll always be here for her, and if they got separated for any reason, she'll always look for her until they get reunited again. And Mayuko realizing she had fallen (hard) for Yuri... Because she's strong, compassionate and, before all, made her feel special. Worthy of being love. Worthy to keep on living.
And Yuri swearing her and herself to made sure Mayuko got the life she deserves - a peaceful, normal life, full love. Like anybody should have. And she pictured herself in this life. She wants to be with her. And she slowly herself falls in love with her...
This could had been one (because it's definitely not the only one) smart way to exposed us what's the background of Mayuko and created bond between her and Yuri. That's also why I tend to look more in fanon to have my way. I desperately crave for bonding between them. I want to ship them and got my serotonin when I look on/read about them so bad.
It's the choice of the writer to focus more on the plot than the characters and it's not necessarily a good or a bad choice in itself. But I personally prefer a vague lore/classical story over good dynamics and characters. Made me root for them. Made me cried for them. Made me laugh with them. Not just "wow that's amazing" because one thing I love in this couple is how badass they are. But I would like to see others aspects - and not just fanservice or 'plot orientated' reasons :')
If it was just a little more polished, it could easily fall in my OTPs!! (Maybe in Arrive? I hope? :''''))
