Sodiq Yusuff KOs Moggly Benitez in the first round!
One HELL of a round! Both guys got wobbled, cut and hurt before Yusuff finds a quickie counter that absolutely batters Moggly. Moggly hits the ground, ground and pound follows and we get the finish and the stoppage!
Sodiq Yusuff gets a 29-28er over Andre Fili
Hmmmmm.
So we can begin I suppose with discussing what Yusuff did well. For starters, Yusuff came out with his usual composed patient striking style and picked away at Fili with powerful combinations. Fili’s counter to that was wrestling, primarily a lot of well timed takedowns whenever Yusuff was in the range to do significant damage. To his credit, Yusuff was never held down and rarely expressed any sort of panic whence taken down. In the second round, he picked off Andre Fili on a leg kick and got on top of him for the whole second round. I think Yusuff could’ve and should’ve done more in that situation to leave an impact but he clearly took the second. In the third round, he just shut down and paid the price for it as FIli hit him from a distance and prevented Yusuff from being first or being in the proper range to strike. I think Yusuff took the fight but he left a lot of meat on the bone metaphorically and there’s some questions that need answering
Sodiq Yusuff’s patience and composure is stupendous. Think Fili’s adjustment to wrestle everytime Sodiq’s lead leg plants for power combinations is a smart decision because it’s starting to give Yusuff a reason to pick his spots a little bit better.
Good round.
Moggly Benitez vs Sodiq Yusuff making a UFC PPV is absolutely positively the right thing to do. Should be a violent finish either way.
Another great fight at 145 lbs.
