During The Mortal after party, Yutaka Aoki sat on my right side and Ken Morioka on the left. It’s silly to talk about it now, how I was excited that the three of us could work together, and at the end Ken-chan was amazed with how calm drunk Yutaka Aoki was . . . Both of them have passed away. Such a lonely feeling.
Note: Today is the 4th anniversary of Ken Morioka passing away.
It’s been two years. Rest in peace.
Remember when I bought a CD with just 200JPY for shipping and I was afraid it’s a scam? Well, today Yutaka Aoki’s “Lost In Forest” arrived! They really sent it with AirMail, I got some pretty flyers and stickers from this label record as well. I paid 1450JPY in total for this album. I am so happy I finally bought it. It’s my tribute to a wonderful person that Aoki was. It took him years to complete it. He made illustrations for it. It’s his life work. And he will live forever through the sound of this album.

Having posted a few things about MORRIE just now, I have to add one more thing.
In my impression, the death of Yutaka Aoki last year have left a deep scar on MORRIE’s heart. It changed him. In the past year (as Aoki’s death anniversary is coming), MORRIE has become much more cheerful and open person. The simplest way to notice that is probably just following him on Twitter, seeing how much he’s interacting with other’s now, how he’s eager to reach out to his fans. And how often he speaks about his feelings now, things that bring him joy.
And as much as MORRIE misses Aoki a lot (having set the release date for In The Shining Wilderness on March 19th, the day Aoki died; recording songs using his guitar; using his guitar at the ongoing tour), he tries to make the best out of life now. Letting Kiyoharu, Sakito, and now Boris participate on the album, and join him at the live, feels a lot like “I want to fully appreciate the talented people around me, while it’s still possible”.
I am incredibly curious of new album lyrics. I have a feeling it will be the most beautiful farewell for Yutaka Aoki.

Yesterday at Nagoya Jammin’ MORRIE talked a lot about Yutaka Aoki. First of all, he said it seems like yesterday, that Aoki has passed away. MORRIE still isn’t used to the thought his dear friend is no longer around. Also, he shared his memory from March 18th, when he visited Aoki in the hospital, day before his death. MORRIE said Aoki’s eyes were still very lively. They discussed recording guitar parts for MORRIE’s new solo album. Nowadays, MORRIE says he cannot find a replacement for Aoki, because no one would be good enough. But for Aoki’s sake, he wants to record an album filled with love and peace. He also suggested it’s possible various guitarists will participate in the new album.
