Poolside reflections.
Days 7 & 8
“Self-Care Sunday” has become a running weekly tradition for me. I have a habit of overworking, wanting to do too many things and wanting to do them all at once. As an ambitious woman, and as we tend to be, I found to be spreading myself too thin, too often, and thus my dedication to Self-Care Sundays was born.
Although, it’s Monday night now, I’ve spent much of the last two days relaxing and enjoying the sunshine and humidity. Although for some, these conditions might be frazzling, I have to say that my skin and hair are in-love. Having spent much of my childhood in The Rainforest, I think the revisit to these conditions has found a calming-effect in all of me and, better yet, allowed for a time of reflection.
After a conversation with a friend this morning, I got a little deeper into my own thoughts – as I do. The importance of time for reflection and slowing down is not nearly as accepted and/or appreciated in the modern world as so many of us are (often silently) crying out for. Or at least, that’s how I think a lot of us tend to feel. We are filled with so much self-doubt and fear of failure that we often deny ourselves the time to accept and face our own realities. Why?
My time in Bali, and my time of self-reflection here, has led me to a lot of self-discovery. These steps are ones I would like to take to find my next path along this journey that is life. What is life, if not a journey of growth? Where do we find growth without failures wherein we learn our most valuable lessons? The wins will come, but as all good things in this life, patience is the only way we will get them.
So, although I will keep this entry short and sweet I would like to leave you with some of the lessons-to-be-learned that I’ve observed in the Balinese way. And please don’t get me wrong; these are lessons that are to be learned for the remainder of my years on this curious planet.
Lesson one is gratitude. Despite what little you may think you have, find appreciation in it.
Lesson two is respect. We don’t all have the same values, ideas, religions, beliefs, but we can all respect one another for the choices others make in their own lives. Of course, I say this provided that they in return respect yours.
Lesson three is patience. I think you’ve gotten the gist of where I’m going with this one, but don’t you think we could all do with a little more “self care,” too?
Tomorrow we head back to work, so continue to stay tuned! I know that I’m excited to see what more my last week on this island has to teach me.
