I went to a networking event today hosted by a non profit advocating for women in scientific fields. I had stumbled across this event last year, a couple months into my current job and half a year after moving to my current city. I had been so excited but once I got there I felt so alone in the crowd. 

This year, I knew some names, and a lot more faces! However I realized that there were several people I knew, had gone to their talks or lectures or heard about their work or met the people in their labs, but had never actually introduced myself to them. I knew them but they didn’t know me, so I felt creepy and didn’t talk to them. I think my goal for next year is to not only know people, but let people get to know me back!

I haven’t really been feeling instagram these days but on the flip side, I finally feel like I’m coming out on the other side of a decade long battle with anxiety. It’s amazing what yoga and therapy can do for the mind and body. When I first moved to Portland, I felt so much pressure to prove myself as an artist, but it was at the expense of my mental health. To anyone struggling with anxiety or depression, you are stronger than you think. Make your mental health your number one priority and don’t feel bad about setting limits and boundaries. I’ve learned that my threshold for stress is extremely low, but it’s because I put all of myself into my work. I don’t usually share this much with the Internet world, but here’s a reminder that no one is perfect and that it’s ok to love yourself when you need it most. 💕 .
