Yu Yu Hakusho live action being loved on Tumblr and hated on Reddit is our very own "Venom movies are approved by audience and hated by critics on Rotten Tomatoes"
this guy is hands down the funniest fucking creature to ever
"Should I watch Yu Yu Hakusho?" Look, as someone who loves YYH with all my heart, I have to tell you that it is, first and foremost, a Shonen. A 90's Shonen. It's the quintessential Shonen experience. Are there a few subtle themes that are surprisingly thoughtful, specially later in the manga? Yes. Are there conversations about evil and violence that hit you in the face like a slap? Absolutely. But YYH is about Yusuke Urameshi beating the living crap out of other teens and youkais. It has the best Martial Arts Tournament of the story of anime. If you like fights, then hell yeah give Yu Yu Hakusho a try.
They really gave Hiei all those belts. God bless.
I forgot to talk about Hiei slicing that car in episode 2. How could I?! It looked so good.
I watched Episodes 3-5 without stopping because of Genkai.
Now, let me talk about Genkai. Goated teacher. Rayleigh who? Jiraiya who? Satoru Gojo who? And she's a woman teaching a dude in a Shonen. Togashi is goat for that. Of course, she gets knocked out in the same episode she's introduced, so I don't know if live-action only people will ever know the greatness. The reigan in episode 3 looked great.
The fights for both Kurama and Hiei were well done. The effects looked good. I love how Karasu asked Kurama if he used conditioner and how he kept talking about Kurama's beauty. Hiei's dragon of the darkness flame looked good. Kuwabara falling for Yukina will always be funny to me because she's Hiei's sister, and they're always fighting. The way Yukina was looking at him was a bit weird though. Yukina was the only one I wasn't sold on, but I think that's just because Yukina is hard to do.
Older Toguro was unhinged as he should be, and younger Toguro looked disgusting at the end as he should. Hiei, Kurama, and Yusuke vs. Toguro looked great. Hiei coming in with that save towards the end. Hiei with the saves. Always. Especially if it's for Yukina. He just looks so cool. I loved the ending when he tells Kuwabara not to talk to Yukina because she's too pure for him. I love Kurama coming over to mediate. Like I said... Kurama is just super kind.
Overall... I think it was super condensed. A LOT was skipped. I think they probably prioritized introducing all 4 of the boys early on and introducing their motivations early on to build a bond with them and the audience. I think the budget might have had something to do with condensing so much. Continuity seems to be another factor. They didn't know about it being renewed, so they got as much as possible done and found an ending spot that would still be satisfactory if it's not renewed. It looks great, and it was entertaining though.
Yu Yu Hakusho: Episode 2 (2023)
Inagaki Goro as Sakyo
kurama watching yusuke fight goki with zero intention of helping was so funny and yusuke being like "yeah that kurama guy is a total creep" accurate!!!
