“Are you sure?” Carlyn asked, her voice filled with worry.
“I really wanted to surprise him, but I don’t to get anyone sick,” Y/N replied near to tears.
Carlyn sighed at the other end of the phone. “We’ll figure something out. You just rest and focus on getting better. Do you want me to bring you anything later? Soup? Ice cream?”
“I already went and got everything. Thanks, though.”
“Okay, well call me if you need anything.”
“I will,” Y/N promised before hanging up.
Flopping back on her bed, she exhaled in frustration. Y/N had planned on surprising Josh for Valentine’s, but she was struck with strep throat before she could put her plan into motion. She had set it up with Carlyn, her best friend, but now it would have to wait until Y/N was on a routine of taking her meds. All she had wanted was to see Josh perform and hug his neck afterwards no matter how sweaty he might be. They hadn’t seen each other in four months, and now was their only chance to see each other again for a while.
Y/N began to cry, but stopped herself.
“No,” she said to herself, “crying isn’t going to solve anything.”
She decided it was best to go ahead and clean up and make dinner in order to take her medicine. She was going to get better, even if it meant missing Z-Stars’ concert.
After showering and throwing on one of Josh’s baggy shirts she had stolen from his closet a few months back and some joggers, she went to the kitchen and took a cup from her cabinet to fill it with water.
A knock on the door startled her. Y/N set her cup on the counter and then looked out of the peephole and couldn’t believe whom it was standing on her doorstep.
Y/N cracked her door open. “Josh?”
“Hey, baby,” he greeted with a smile.
“What are you doing here?”
“Carlyn told me you were sick, and I wanted to see you.”
“Don’t you have a concert tonight? I was going to surprise you, and Carlyn was in on it.”
“It’s tomorrow night,” he corrected. “We had rehearsals today already, and I came over to take care of you.”
“I’m contagious,” Y/N objected.
“Only if you have a fever or were to kiss my lips.”
Y/N thought for a moment. He was right, but at the same time she was scared of getting him sick before a concert. She decided to take her chances.
“Since I don’t have a fever,” she said as she opened the door to let him, “come on in.”
Josh walked in with a large sack in his hands and a stuffed bear in his arms. “Is that for me?”
The young man nodded as he set the bag down on the counter and untied the plastic knot, revealing to be a thermos of soup and a tub of ice cream.
“Did you overhear Carlyn talking to me over the phone?” Y/N asked as her boyfriend placed everything on the counter by her water and medication.
“Maybe,” Josh chuckled, then turned to Y/N and slid his arms around her waist. “But I know you, Y/N, and I know how much you like to do absolutely nothing when you’re sick. You’re my baby, and I want to take of my baby.”
Y/N hugged him tightly as she grabbed the teddy bear off the counter and cuddled them both.
“You’re cute,” she giggled. “Thank you.”
Josh kissed her forehead and said, “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
He scanned Y/N up and down, a grin forming on his face.
“What?” she chucked.
“You look so cute in my clothes,” he replied.
For the rest of the afternoon, Josh made sure she took her meds and watched a marathon of all of the X-Men films. Eventually, Y/N felt her medicine kicking in and fell asleep snuggled up to her boyfriend.
Josh then dialed Carlyn.
“How is she doing?” she asked.
“She’s fine,” he whispered. “She just fell asleep on the couch.”
“At least she’s okay. Will you be back for rehearsal? It starts at seven.”
He didn’t want to wake Y/N so soon after she fell asleep, so he decided to let her sleep until the current movie playing was over. He looked at the time. He had four hours to kill.
“I’ll be back in plenty of time,” he promised. “Y/N’s health is my priority right now.”
