If she was created for anything, it is this. Chaos. Adrenaline pumps through her system, pushing her forward, up flights up stairs before turning 180 degrees, pushing off from the railing and kicking a runner against its head. It. If there is one lesson that has stuck, it’s not to see them as humans. Even if they’re still so familiar looking. Daiyu only glances at the body she’s sent flying when she shoots a bullet in its head. Had she looked longer, she might have recognised a soldier her age.
There’s more, attracted by the sound of her violence. If she’s grinning while skipping the rest of the steps, then so be it — this is perhaps when life feels most uncomplicated. When running for your life. When attracting more runners. When too adrenaline-high to worry too much about all else, the bodies that are piling, the presence of other loved ones in the building.
She reaches the top floor, rushing into a storefront, reaching in her backpack for the blunt force object of the day. Bred for weapons, for violence. This might be when she is most tolerable to herself, but it’s ironically when she is most tolerable to Alexei too. No time to think of that. There’s a runner coming her way and Daiyu swings the lump of wood lattered with nails back, ready to take aim at its fucked-brain when recognition washes over her.
“Zahra!” Another look reassures her that this isn’t, in fact, a runner. It takes a split second to keep her from dropping her weapon in surprise and then another to grab the other, shove both her back into the shop and take aim once again. This time, the wood and nails do make contact with an infected skull, the body dropping before the pair of them. Daiyu whips around, looks at Zahra. “Lord almighty a-fucking-bove, am I right? Y’alright? The fuck happened here?”
