His name is Zaion Dan'talyse. A powerful Dalish mage with a past we, even his closest friends and allies, know very little about. I don't know why he doesn't speak of his clan beyond vague references to his gods and culture, but something tells me it isn't about trust. I learned a long time ago that trust and secrets are separate things to him. I can only assume his keeps his secrets out of loyalty to his clan, or perhaps some Oath he's made to them. He's the honorable sort like that.

Still, I've managed to learn some things over the long years we've been friends. I won't write everything, he has earned my silence as much as my friendship, but to keep them fresh I will write down what I deem important;

-He grew up mainly around forests and knows how to navigate them well.

-When his powers came in, he traversed the fade and met a friendly spirit of Loyalty. She returned with him in the form of his wolf familiar Reyna. She protects his sleep from demons.

-He learned how to control his magic after being stuck at the top of a tree during a fierce storm. And practiced his control through dance.

-Though he can shapeshift into most animals, I've only ever seen him become a wolf. He claims it's because he feels kinship with them through his familiar.

-He claims he chose the vallaslin of Dirthamen because he is a knowledge keeper, but I get the sense there's more to it than that.

-Only a father, dead for many years, has been mentioned. Seen once during our quest in the Temple of Sacred Ashes, but other than his hero worship of his father's memories, I know little else about his family.

-Some years before I met him, he encountered Tiventer slavers and bears a deep seated hatred and grudge towards Tiventer.

-After leaving his clan in his late teens, Zaion began a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the Templars where he would allow his capture and be taken to a Circle. There would would ferret out where they kept stolen knowledge from the Dalish, and later steal the books and artifacts and escape in the dead of night. He never said where exactly he took them, only that he returned them to the Dalish.

-During these years he befriended a young Svarah and thus, Stone-Bear Hold. They gave him a Legend-mark and refer to him has 'Storm Wolf'. As he tells it, they found him in wolf form, injured but still fighting a group of bandits in a storm. He stayed with them while he healed and would return every so often with gifts as thanks for healing him.

-Joining the Wardens was not his choice. Duncan conscripted him when Zaion failed to stop his friend, Jowan, from becoming a blood mage and escaping. However, he took to the Wardens gracefully and even admitted the game with the templars was getting more dangerous the older he grew and felt the Wardens could give him new advantages in his quest to take back what belonged to the Dalish.

-He has a surprising but extremely welcome fondness for fashion. And also appreciates good food, but can be a bit of a picky eater. He even loves music and to dance. Traits that makes the few balls we've attended together far more enjoyable.

-Of all the rumors and stories I've heard of my dear friend, and most of which I can believe, I know him best as the man who likes to sleep under the stars and make his friend groan from terrible puns.
