I love how the Internet allows me to listen to foreign music. Really, I do. But I also really hate getting foreign music in my head. It's fine when you're listening to it but when I'm working or driving and my brain just suddenly goes "ZANGALEWA HEY HEY!" And I have to listen to an 11 minute vibe just to get it loose...
Mind you, that assumes that I don't know what the song is. If I know what the artist is saying, sometimes I feel bad listening to it on the radio or whatever. Like what if a Polish speaker hears me listening to Gdzie jest biały węgorz? At least if I don't know I don't feel weird about blasting a Japanese song that as it turns out, is about boobs or something.
And THAT assumes I can remember the title to it outside of memes. It's easier to look up "Polish Cow" than "Gdzie jest biały węgorz," for multiple reasons. And if the song isn't a meme, I can't make out the title because I just listened to something in Portuguese and I can't tell where some of the words stop and start because I can't speak or write Portuguese.
I'm done now, I just wanted to get that out of the old system.

WAKA WAKA, YEKE YEKE...ZAMINA-MINA
New afro house tune from Phunk Investigation
You can download or listen this album on your usual platform.
Zamina-mina or Zangalewa is a Cameroonian song. It is part of the repertoire of soldiers, but also a manifesto of young people throughout Africa. Its rhythm is catchy and can serve as a singing march. It was remade as the theme song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Shakira. It is a great honor to re-propose it in an Afro House key on the beloved Neapolitan label Miniatures Records, produced by Phunk Investigation and remixed by Friscia & Lamboy. Recommended!

Zangalewa, a song by Zangalewa on Spotify
I’ve shared Zangalewa’s music here in the past and mentioned that Shakira took their song 7 years ago for her Waka Waka world cup anthem. I was listening to them earlier today and I realised I hadn’t updated this site in a while.
Ceci s’intitule ‘Maladie difficile à soigner”. J’aime beaucoup. Cameroun all day!
Found this gem on the web today. If you can, please check out the Zangalewa’s official website. You can even stream all their albums directly and enjoy them free of charge. It's pretty amazing. I recommend scrolling down to their 3rd album ‘Caporal Grillé’ released in 1991. There is this track called ‘Un bébé’, meaning ‘A baby’ in English, which is one of my favourites by them ever. It’s a mid-tempo song about the struggle a couple faces to conceive and how they’d give anything to have a child. Been jamming to it since I was a kid, but I haven’t been able to stop playing it since Saturday, plus Annie Anzouer’s voice takes the song to a divine level.
Yes it’s Wednesday so you’re extremely welcome. C’est Mercredi :)
