So I may be judging this book a little more harshly because with the exception of Rafael the latest outings by LKH have been pretty disappointing. But overall I enjoyed this book. PROS - It's a new series so it doesn't have all the baggage associated with Anita Blake. - The protagonist is male so that's a fresh approach for LKH. - I'm digging the mythology and the fresh takes on angels, demons, and totems. - I'm really intrigued by some of the side characters especially the ones in Havoc's police unit. -I want more details about HER. The hints they were dropping about the seraphim were massive but nothing was really revealed yet. - I'm interested enough to get future books. CONS - This is very much "1st Book in a Series" set up. A lot of things are referenced vaguely to get you to come back for subsequent books. - I'm not sure if it's just an LKH thing but at times Havoc's voice was similar enough to Anita Blake's that it felt like it wasn't a male voice. - There was no sex but things were constantly made sexual. It's hard to explain. It was just like maybe LKH didn't want to jump into sex in book 1 but made Havoc think about women constantly sexualy because he'd been celibate for *gasp 6 months*. - The whole there's a demon on the loose but let me go to my couples therapy session right now was odd. It was a weird interlude that makes it seem like LKH is really pushing the importance of therapy in all her books. Which IS IMPORTANT in general but the timing was just weird. - The climax was a bit... meh. Like I was ready for Havoc to go talk to Ravensong about totems and her raccoon and then boom the next victim just happened to be in the coffee shop and the final fight was just *womp womp*. 3.5/5 #ATerribleFallOfAngels #LKH #BookReview #NewSeries #ZanielHavelock #UrbanFantasy #Angels #Demons #nerdymama #nerdybooks #booknerd #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CXZWNN4rxId/?utm_medium=tumblr
