Rules: answer 10 questions and ask 10 new ones.
1. What is your favorite holiday and why?
I’d definitely say the Summer holidays. Because then I’ll be off for three whole weeks!
2. If you had to cunduct an interview with someone who is now dead who would you pick?
I have absolutely no idea... Maybe my dad? Or some long lost relativ from the distant past?
Or maybe a Viking. Just to know what times were like for them back in the day.
3. If you had to cunduct an interview with a fictional character who would you pick?
HICCUP! ABSOLUTELY HICCUP!
Or Link from the Zelda series. Kinda wanna know what’s up with him, too.
4. What is your favorite word from a language you do not speak?
Pffff... I don’t really know. There are so many languages and they all have such beautiful words.
5. What is your least favorite book you’ve read?
I don’t really know? I’ve never really read that much as a child or as a teen and I still don’t read all that many books. Have more than enough unread books, though!
6. What toppings do you like on your ice cream?
Sprinkles, I’d have to say! Chocolat or strawberry sauces aren’t that bad either, though.
7. Do you think Hiccup and Toothless are the greatest example of platonic love in modern media? Why? WHY? WWHHHYYY???????
I am definitely of the opinion that Hiccup and Toothless have the greatest (or one of the greatest) example of a platonic relationship in modern media.
Just the way the trust in each other is build up in the first movie alone. They get put into these situations where they have to trust each other and not only do they give that trust, but they also discover that their trust is never misplaced.
And in their world so torn by war, both carrying such a heavy baggage of their respective childhoods, trust is such a big word. And the fact that they can trust each other, have proven to each other that they can be trusted even when their lives are at stakes, is so immense!
Nevermind what they give to and take from each other.
Hiccup takes Toothless’ tailfin and then spends the entire movie trying to set that right, giving him the pleasure of discovering what it’s like to fly with a dear friend. Toothless takes Hiccup’s peace of mind concerning dragons and makes him question everything he’s ever known (and not known) about dragons, giving him a whole world to explore and his life’s calling.
Hiccup takes Toothless’ cold home under the Red Death and replaces it with a warm and happy one in his own home. Toothless takes Hiccup’s loneliness and becomes his first real friend.
And then there is also the way they understand each other. Toothless can’t speak a word of Norse and anything a human does confuses the heck out of him. Still, just in their very first real scene together, Hiccup very quickly comes to understand that Toothless wants peace, distance, and a respect for both of those things and him.
And that is because Hiccup opens himself up to Toothless, opens his mind and his heart to learn. And in turn, Toothless warms up a little and takes an interest in what Hiccup is doing, even going as far as taking a liking to what Hiccup is doing and wanting to try it out for himself.
Go forward a couple of years to Httyd 2 and in that movie, too, there are so many examples of such a great platonic relationship.
There are small “blink and you miss it” moments of Toothless looking after the smaller and obviously way more vulnerable of the two. Such as when they are in the sky and Toothless periodically checks up on his Rider, even closely paying attention to Hiccup’s every move when he wants to try out his flightsuit. And then later when they’re playfighting, when Hiccup makes such dramatic fake punches while Toothless just uses light pats because he wants to play, but also knows that Hiccup is still human and he thinks of that.
And, obviously, Hiccup’s love for his dragon being the thing that helps Toothless conquer the Bewilderbeast’s control as well as the image of a mindcontrolled Toothless being what killed his father.
There are just so many things that I can gush about. If I don’t stop now, we’ll be here forever. But it basically comes down to how natural they feel together and how much they grow when they are together, how much detail has been put into their relationship.
And it of course doesn’t hurt that they are canonically soulmates, so.
8. Did my last question make you uncomfortable?
9. Do you have a favorite toe and if so why?
10. Which film do you think I should watch and why?
I have no idea? I don’t so easily recommend things to people because I can be a bad judge on that front.
Not tagging anyone. Kinda tired.
