I headcanon that the reason why Zaryant is noticeably larger than her fellow worker ants, rivaling the Queen in size, is because she’s not the same type of ant as them; being instead a Bullet Ant, Giant Amazonian Ant, or similar species.
Zaryant’s birth colony was destroyed, or she was otherwise forced to flee; and got adopted into Bugaria’s Ant Kingdom (making her a counterpart to Hoaxe). That’s why she’s so loyal to Queen Elizant II: she gave her a home when she had nowhere else to go.
The reason why Zaryant wears her armor and helmet all the time is because she privately feels ashamed of being different from the other ants, of not being Elizant’s “real” daughter.
“Bug Fables” Headcanons: Allopreening
Just like in their pre-Awakening ancestors, allopreening, or social grooming, is very important to eusocial insect culture; serving not just to maintain cleanliness, but also to strengthen interpersonal bonds.
Although there are many salons and spas where bugs can go to be professionally preened; most preening is done by friends, family members, or partners.
Preening is usually done with brushes, combs, and cloths. Preening someone the old-fashioned way, with just your hands and mouth, is considered deeply intimate (though not inherently romantic or sexual).
Preening, traditionally, is heavily intertwined with colony hierarchies; with lower-ranking bugs preening their superiors. A higher-ranking bug, especially a royal, preening a subordinate is considered an immense honor.

So, I drew The Ant Lieutenant and Zaryant, for no other reason than to practice drawing them.
Queen Bianca: “So what has it been like, raising a princess?”
Queen Elizant II: “It’s been going well, so far. Though I confess, I wasn’t prepared for how much crying there would be.”
Queen Bianca: “There’s no need to worry, larvae are supposed to cry.”
Queen Elizant II: “Antastasia is completely fine. I was referring to Zaryant.”
Cut to Zaryant standing over a crib in the royal nursery, in which an ant larva sleeps peacefully.
Zaryant: *sobbing* “I love you so much!”
“Bug Fables” Headcanons: Snugglebugs
Having evolved to live in densely-populated nests, most eusocial insects struggle to sleep by themselves.
Even when space isn’t an issue, it’s extremely common for sisters to share sleeping quarters, or even beds.
Most queens have at least one bedmate; sometimes a lover, but more frequently a trusted guard, lady-in-waiting, or friend. Zaryant is Elizant II’s usual companion, while Jayde is Vanessa’s.
When eusocial bugs need to sleep alone, for whatever reason; weighted blankets or plushies can help immensely, especially if they smell like home and family.
Bed Bugs are popular pets among ants, bees, wasps, and termites who live or regularly travel outside their colonies.
Poor Vi suffered from chronic insomnia after leaving the Hive. Sometimes, she’d go to the Underground Tavern just to find a seat in the corner, and lay her head on the table to take a nap. It was only after teaming up with Kabbu and Leif-both of whom also had issues sleeping alone-that Vi was finally able to get a good night’s sleep again.
