The big lug likes to think he's very suave... and he's mostly correct. But he's also a complete nerd. Especially when he's researching for a role.
Case in point: for an upcoming show, he gets to play a rogue-ish bard. He's brushing up on his lock-picking. The theory and history of course! Not practice!
Mei immediately tenses, though she pushes a smile to her face, "Yooou must have the wrong person, nothing could.. nothing could take.. him down, he's.. not.. right?"
Jeanne is curious about Mei's relationship with Ho-oh and job as a dancer and is looking for a memory based on that.
(( Cut for length ; v; ))
'I don't see why we have to do this every year'
Jeanne had been watching the memory play out for a little while. Nothing but idle chatter between Mei and another woman who'd been helping her get ready. There was a ceremony taking place, that much was for certain.
'To offer up our respect for Ho-oh, Mei, you should know this by now.'
Jeanne could see the smaller girl tense at the other woman's words, she stayed where she was, she couldn't do anything at this point.
'Oh no, I know what we're doing, I don't understand WHY' Mei's hands tugged at the sleeves of her kimono, looking to the woman.
'Sister..'
'Why do we put our faith into something that could be captured..! Something that could be used as a tool.'
'Mei tha-'
'What if all this tradtion means nothin-'
'Meiko, ENOUGH.'
Mei flinched when the woman raised her voice, quietening down almost instantly. By the looks of things it wasn't the first time Mei had questioned her role. Jeanne frowned, watching Mei's older sister step closer, neatening her hair that'd fallen out of place.
'You think too much, dear sister, everything will be fine, now go you are the lead this year.'
The next thing the Pirate knew, everything had skipped, she was sitting in the crowd of people. Mei moving towards the stage.
The smaller girl seemed much calmer now, focused. When a bell chimed and the music started she moved with it, relaxing more as time went on.
There was certainly something about the way she moved, Jeanne had to admit that much. She'd seen what she'd wanted to know.
