I love that you kept Zeeby in your profile pic. Do you have a favorite memory of Zeeby that you feel comfortable sharing?
Huh that’s a really nice question 🥰
Honestly I had to think pretty hard on this one, think I really just try not to think about her too much. whenever I do I just get flung back in to that moment in my truck getting the phone call from the vet telling me she was gone, driving way over the speed limit just to make it to the clinic before they closed for the night, convincing myself this isn’t real, trying to see the road through my tears and rage. I feel anger. I feel regret. Run through that moment over and over and over like that’s somehow going to change the outcome, give me an answer, solve the problem. It doesn’t. It never will. But I’ll always wonder if there’s something I could have changed.
One really prominent memory is this specific photo
They were both very enthusiastic recallers and tried to land at the same time. Makes me think of how happy these two were together, all the preen sessions, all the mischief they caused, all the times they teamed up to achieve something.
Otherwise when it comes to Zeeb I just really think about how it felt being with her. I raised her from a featherless mush baby so that connection was very different than any of my other pets. Very very clingy, very emotionally aware, always needing to be a part of activities, always right there when you needed her. She was so fun to work with and really loved training, she was a delight to work with, learned so quickly, was so focused, she learned a lot of fun things that I still haven’t gotten around to teaching my other birds. Maybe she’s why I’m generally unmotivated by trick training now.
Yeah I don’t know. A specific memory doesn’t come to mind. Just a feeling. A longing. A loss.
