Question: What in the name of Fakemon Arceus is Pokengine?
Great question!
What is Pokengine?
Pokengine is a browser-based, free-to-play MMORPG with a heavy focus on user-generated content. With the built-in Pokedex, mapping, and development tools available, creators can add their own Fakemon and design their unique region for other users to play through. The game is entirely pixel art styled after the handheld 2D Pokemon games.
Okay, but is this real?
Yes! …Sort of. Pokengine is in closed beta right now, and has been for about, oh, the last 8 years or so. The latest build of the game has more features than ever, and includes things like battles, PvP, trading, an inter-regional travel system, a global PokeDex, and more. However, the playable content available is currently limited to two regions: the Summer Island (a mini-region to showcase various Fakemon across the Featured dexes) and Retro Kanto. More regions are in the works and will be available soon.
Its diligent volunteer developers, Kyledove and Jext, add new content, features and bugfixes to the game pretty much every week.
How can I join?
Since the game is still in closed beta, users have to send a request to the devs before they can join. Make an account on Pokengine.org, join the game’s Discord server, and ask and you will be granted access to play the regions currently available.
If you are a fakemon or region creator, and would like to have your dex added to the game, the process is a bit more involved. Fakemon regions need to show a substantial amount of progress (Typically 10~15 completed designs at the minimum) to receive approval. Once approved, you will be granted ownership over your dex and can add/edit fakemon. A list of the latest fakemon added to the game can be found here.
On Pokengine, user-created regions are divided up into ordinary and Certified regions. Certified regions are complete, or show a substantial amount of progress combined with an overall high level of quality. Even if you’re not a user, you can browse the regions uploaded to the site and all of the creative fakemon designs added there!
Several fakemon designers here on Tumblr have regions on Pokengine, including Korza Region, Qamor Region and Omnis Region!
If this seems interesting to you at all, then I highly suggest checking it out! It’s got one of the biggest collections of high-quality fakemon from many different artists and designers on the internet, so definitely worth a look!
it started out with just @nhus321 and i holding lavi’s hands. then half of shima’s server got involved.
@nerdshrimp: I’ll grab his ass
@kitikat707: Can i sit on his shoulders
@zekromztk2: I was gonna say... latched on to a leg or something
@lumen-ciela: I’m running to tackle you from behind
@zekromztk2
Here… take this lil bitty Hornet… she’ll protect you from bad things!
thank you very much 🥺
Hey! Kourt!! Happy Christmas!!! Please don't pelt us with snowballs!!!!
I'm just amazed that people don't seem to care about how if you show literally any emotion around Hatterene, it'll literally kill you, and people wanna be horny with it.
STRONG emotions specifically. Like I could be :) around it and be fine but the second I start crying or having a tantrum she’ll burst out of her pokeball and kill me.
Oh I'll keep it simple alright... Cirno with an orange.
What is this strange thing
I... I am very confused. How does Texts From Last Night even work???
If you’re asking how the website works, I would suggest looking at the new texts, the best texts (on the top right) or trying to enter search terms in the search bar (on the top right).
If you’re asking how the texts manage to work with Fire Emblem characters, that’s due to imagination.
