I haven't drawn Vaati in a while but I wanted to draw his demon form :p

Sketch:

The layout for this piece focuses more on Zelda but does have that secondary focal point on Vaati but I want the eye resting on Zelda more. This is already done just as Vaati's bat wings hand and Zelda's design is more detailed than the ball of fluff Vaati's body is

Line art:

I made Vaati's line art thicker cuz he's bigger and the line difference helps suggest that, I could have outlined Zelda a bit more but it didn't matter that much in the end

Flats:

Colours are just from the official character art, the purple background just matches where all the colours I've used already are. I did try a yellowish colour but it stole the attention away. The gold on Zelda helps for that contrast and pop of colour to bring the focal point onto her.

Finished render:

For shading the light source is placed in a way for the focal point as well, I also tested pushing gradients a bit more and I do like the look.

A more specific detail I enjoy about this piece is Zelda's dress I think I got the fabric on the skirt pretty well with all the different folds. Her hair also has some nice motion to it, as mentioned in the last post of my Oracle of Ages/Seasons fanart, motion is something I'm looking to get better at.

Has anyone written a Zelda fic set in the downfall timeline (the one where the Hero of Time loses against Ganon at the end of Ocarina of Time) where Vaati is the villain?

As far as Hyrule Historia (and I) are concerned, Four Swords is before the timeline split, so once that was released, every game since then confirmed to be in the downfall timeline had its villain speculated to be Vaati since the position is wide open for his return. Every time, we’ve been wrong.

Since Nintendo doesn’t have the balls to make Vaati a villain in the downfall timeline, I figured that fans would do so.
