okay. DP remakes, but they look like actual garbage. even worse than sword, shield AND let's go. disappointment ™. on the other hand, the legends arceus thing looks actually pretty and the Pokémon have real animations and I'm actually hype for Pokémon since 2015. wow.
I just got done watching both, so you beat me to this.
I’m gonna start with the Pokémon Legends game. It does actually look really good, and I’m glad we’re continuing the trend of the side games being better visual and gameplay experiences than the main games. We’ll have to see how it controls though, because free throwing Pokeballs is something I very much hate, and it gives me Let’s Go vibes just more open world. I am reserving judgment.
As for the Diamond/Pearl remakes, no it does not look as good. Yes the chibi art on the overworld looks goofy. I actually like it better. I’ve said this before but I’m not someone who cares all that much about visuals. I think we should just have stuck with sprite work. The transition back to what I feel is Gen 6 presentation is unexpected and kinda weird, but it does seem like a decision that may save them work and allow resources to go elsewhere. Which is ultimately what I wanted. So again, reserving judgment. Because visually I don’t care, I just want the gyms to be challenging still and for the feel of Sinnoh to persist and for there to not be a forced EXP Share. The gameplay experience will be more critical to me than the visuals. The only reason Sword and Shield’s visuals were an issue was because they also fucked up everything else while chasing “better graphics” that didn’t look any better than before. So if we cut back graphics to make the game feel more engaging, I’m fine with this.
Also to quote a friend of mine: “Another company than GameFreak worked on it, so who knows, maybe this time they had someone who cared about how it turns out.”
