Hello! I have a question if you do not mind. When writing PoT and SoaD, where is Clockwork in all this? Wouldn't he want to help Danny? Is he connected with Danny in your universe? Thank you. Ps. Love the latest chapter of SoaD!

Ah, thank you! And good question! Clockwork is still there, he’s just very hands-off in my version. 

I hold to a more standoffish and chaotic-neutral type of Clockwork - which is a bit different from the fatherly bent he’s gained from fanon, but I’d argue is closer to his canon self. I don’t think he’d interfere with Danny’s fate unless the world was at stake (like in TUE).

The PoT/SoaD ‘verse diverges from canon near the end of S2, shortly before the events of Kindred Spirits. This is never explicitly stated, but in my head the divergent point is that the GIW aren’t able to extract any useful information out of FreakShow (re: opening scene of Reality Trip), so instead they turned to the Fentons for help with tech and made a subcontract with Maddie Fenton, allowing them to bring her in should an interesting specimen be caught…

In any case, that means that TUE and MoaT are both intact and happened as they did in canon - through which I feel that Danny learned his lesson about meddling with time, even under devastating circumstances. 

Though even if he did convince Clockwork, the results would be… mixed, to say the least. Poor kid.

What was my inspiration for this fic? How did it come to me?

It was a combination of really, really liking Darkness by Cordria and getting frustrated by the available selection of lab experiment fics. At least back when I was looking, there were very few chaptered fics that tackled the Fentons experimenting on Danny in a believable, well-written way, and those that did tended to be high-octane angstfests from the get-go. I wanted slow build and strongly developed character motivations. 

Darkness is about Phantom and Maddie trapped in the dark, where they have no other option but to talk. I loved seeing how Maddie slowly changed her mind about Phantom. But they were on equal footing in that fic, both trapped and helpless. I really wanted to know whether Maddie could make the same mental transformation when she was perfectly safe and had the power to destroy Phantom at any time. 

As for how it came to me, like usual, I just started writing whatever scenes came to mind. I knew they had to be one-on-one or Maddie would never waste time talking to “it,” so the setting became an isolated secret lab. Since the whole point was to make an “understated” angst story, that meant I started with just conversations. Maddie trying to be clinical, Danny rambling back at her with that weird blend of humor, nervousness, and sense of justice. 

Then suddenly she cut off his hand, which was not the direction I’d intended at all. But it just made sense. It was the next logical course of action for Maddie to take. So of course, everything changed. That became the lynch pin of the entire story. Everything was written from there.

The whole escape sequence at the end was the only thing I didn’t have drafted out by the time the third or fourth chapter was finished, since I’d been on the fence for a while whether Danny should escape or not, how, and whether Maddie should be involved. That ending was too sweet to pass up, tho.

I was determined from day one that I wouldn’t get suckered into writing a sequel. Fanfic writers always trip up in their sequels. People begged for them because they didn’t want to let go, it was better to have the original be awesome on its own. The emotional tension just doesn’t hold. They always end up way longer and inferior to the original. Nobody reads them. They’re too much trouble. The impact is weaker, you get too tangled in your own fanon. It would be a waste of time and effort.

Im so sorry but I don't quite understand what happened in storks. Who was the text from amd is the baby girl Danny's biological daughter? Is she a ghost?

Nah - it's all good.  :)

The text was from Vlad, because he had created the child for Danny in some way.  She's a halfa.  Whether or not she's actually Danny's biological child is up for discussion still...

Hello, I was wondering if you have your Danny Phantom fanfiction on fanfiction. net?

I'm an incredibly disorganized person. There's SOME overlap. I have From the Ashes on my fanfiction account and on here...also Victim of Time and What Kills the Soul, I believe.

Fanfiction.net was what I used when I started writing fanfiction. Most of the stuff there is 3-4 years old, and the fics are generally sloppier, more cliche, and more awkwardly written than my tumblr stuff because I was finding my feet. There's one long-ass fic on there (80,000 words-ish) as well as 6 or 7 one-shots I never posted on tumblr.

I've considered posting my tumblr stuff to ff.net. I really SHOULD. But a lot of them were based on ideas that started on tumblr, and I don't think I can add hyperlinks on ff.net to give credit where credit is due... Not to mention I'm lazy and converting everything to word documents is a pain. ^^;

Kinda sorta.  RL is kicking my but right now, so I'll go for months without writing, then maybe have a good couple of weeks here and there.  I have a maybe half or three-quarters finished story I'm plugging away on, but with my schedule, I don't expect to finish it anytime soon.Thanks for asking!

You have to write more for An Unlikely Alliance! Please. The story is so amazing and wonderful! I need to know of maddie gets out of prison.

Eep! I have no plans to continue An Unlikely Alliance. At least... not for a very long time. I do plan to clean it up though and put out an edited version.
