#wildliferescue This baby #whitewingeddove #dove fell from its nest last night and my #cat Bianca was hanging out with her on the back patio, watching her try to climb up our back steps. (Zen kitty Bianca loves other animals & doesn't have the killing gene so I often find her hanging out w squirrels, small rodents & birds where theyre 1 ft or less apart from each other, watching each other, doing their own thing.Lol) Anyway, in this video I'm feeding the baby dove the same type of bird seed the parents eat from my bird feeder and I ground it up in my coffee grinder & added water to make a gruel-like paste & she's been happily eating that out of the spoon or off my finger. I brought her indoors last night after dark to protect her from the wildlife & feral cats that come through my backyard. This morning, i put her outside on her perch nest that i made for her. I had to leave for a while this morning during the prime birdfeeder feeding time so I don't know if the parents have come back and found her yet... but they usually will & since she's right underneath the feeder where they feed, they'll definitely find her. SUCCESS! momma bird just showed up! It's usually best to put a baby bird back into its nest but in this case, the nest is too far up in the tree & I can't reach it, so making a substitute nest for them using Spanish moss (the kind that you put around the base of houseplants) works great. You can keep them off the ground but have them available to the parents to come and feed them. The baby will eventually get to the size when they voluntarily leave the nest & have the ground hopping phase but this one is definitely too Young to be able to survive for that many days on the ground before it starts being able to fly. Sometimes squirrels will apparently push baby birds from their nest before they're ready to leave? And by the way, it's a myth that parents won't come back to a baby if humans have touched them. Throughout my life I’ve rescued many other baby doves & other types of birds, sometimes resuscitating them from the brink of death back to fully healthy and independent Birds.. :-) #bird #birdrescue #babybird #babybirdrescue #zencats (at Austin, Texas)
