Alright alright, *last* Jentry Chau post (for now 👀)

I have lots of projects on the back burner that need attending to, so I’ll probably be switching focus until inspiration inevitably brings me back

Zhongkui was my second favorite JCVTU character so I took a stab at drawing him! (And listen — Flora diggin’ on him once-upon-a-time? I see the appeal 😘)

ohhhkay so uh. yeah. im gonna chat about the dynamic i made up in my head!!!! yayy!!

i dont think i actually went in depth about these two (aside from the au i posted, but whatever) but this is all for my fic, which you can find HERE . kit survives au!

so after mr cheng stabbed kit, kit wasnt actually dead. flora and zhongkui, who are more informed over painted skins, knew he wasnt, so zhongkui opted to take kit under the guise that he would give him a proper burial in bixi where his body would be safe. jentry was comfortable with this.

only, again, kit wasnt dead. hes asleep for about three months before he wakes and, even though hes desperate to return to the mortal world, is stuck in bixi for the unforseen future. in the meantime, him and zhongkui form a bond (i joke theyre like a boss and his unpaid intern, but they become very much like father and son).

zhongkui is probably the first adult who actually cares about his well being. despite knowing kits past, despite having his own history dealing with painted skins, he recognizes that kit is a kid, a traumatized manipulated teenager at that, and is a lot more gentle with him than anyone ever has. kit is unsure of how to deal with that.

but he also respects kit as a person, and goes at his pace of comfort. he wants to stay silent all day? thats fine. wants to speak and ask him questions? thats perfectly fine too. kit always has his full attention, his words matter, and the only topics that are off limits are jentry chau and co. zhongkui is a calm, more laid back presence that kit needs to open up. plus, zhongkui really has no want or need to lie to kit. if he feels that a topic shouldn't be discussed, he redirects the conversation.

zhongkui is also very playful with him! he'll tease kit and and tell him exaggerated tales of his past, and he even picks up on the slang kids say these days (which makes kit cringe....) but once kit starts lightly joking back, even bluntly, zhongkui finds him very amusing in his own way.

and since kit is stuck in his painted skin form, hes not very expressive. at least, to most, but zhongkui is used to any subtle changes in the spirits he holds, so kit is actually incredibly expressive to him. finds that kit pouts a lot, places it in his moody teen folder.

he also takes being responsible for kit very seriously and tries his best. kit is wondering what he ever did to deserve that kindness.

It’s time I finally introduced Xiù!

Age: 577

Species: Dragon, specifically of rain and floods.

Birthday: Her actual birthday is December 28th, but she's forgotten and refuses to ask her mother. She currently believes her birthday is May 5th... although she keeps forgetting to celebrate it.

Family: Zhongkui (Father), Aihan (mother), Xin yi (1st sister, married, 3 sons), Yang (2nd sister, married, 10 sons), Bai (3rd sister, married, no children), Hua (4th sister, married, 9 sons), Chao-Xing (5th sister, married, 7 sons), Dongmei (6th sister, married, 2 sons), Lihua (7th sister, married, 2 sons).

[Backstory]

As a child, she was chaotic, noisy, and exhausted every nanny that took care of her. Compared to her sisters, she was worse than all of them combined. Despite this, her siblings and parents adore her, 'tolerating her' when she gets on their nerves.

She attended a rather prestigious academy, but didn't want to put in any work to actually pass her classes. She only passed due to her eldest sister telling her she would have to repeat school if she didn't suck it up - the very thought terrified Xiu, and she finally put enough effort in to pass. She has refused to step foot into a school since, even after she has children of her own.

Her mother forced her to learn a stringed instrument before she then pushed her into midwifery, citing her daughter should be doing 'something'. During this time, Xiu met a very sick pregnant woman. Despite tending to her as best she could, the woman still passed away during childbirth, asking Xiu to care for her baby. Xiu agreed and named the human child 'Yuxi'.

She loved Yuxi, watching her grow from a baby, to a toddler, to a child. She cleaned scrapes, tended to wounds, and read for hours into the night to get her to sleep. When Yuxi became a teenager, Xiu's sisters taught her how to be a proper lady (they did not trust Xiu to teach her properly, and they were right to do so). Yuxi became elegant and kind as she aged, marrying at 22. She never had any children, fearful of suffering the same fate her biological mother did.

When Yuxi was 40 years old, a maid was hired. Shortly after, Yuxi became sick and died within the year.

Xiu was devastated, even moreso when it was discovered that Luli had stolen Yuxi's skin in a bid to take over the life she'd had. She fought Luli with the intent to kill, but Luli escaped before she could do so. Xiu mourned for a very long time, crying hard and causing it to rain. There was a lot of flooding during this time, made worse when Xiu was afflicted with visions of her deceased daughter's form in places that she would frequent. These occurrences were caused by Luli, using a skin she crafted to look like Xiu's daughter.

Anytime Luli grew annoyed with Xiu, she would wear the skin and appear near Xiu, further tormenting her. No matter where Xiu went or what she did, Luli would often end up following (or at least would keep track of). After decades of trying to forget, using drugs and alcohol and parties to try and make herself mindless, Xiu had an extreme mental breakdown after seeing her dead daughter once again. Her breakdown was so bad that she flooded half of China.

Horrified by what she'd done, she ran to her mother and begged for help. After scolding her child for what she'd done, Aihan softened and promised Xiu that they would build a place where Xiu can be alone. They chose Riverfork, Texas, as they believed little to nothing would happen as is. As construction was underway, Xiu would often visit to check on things, typically affecting the weather during her visits.

After its completion, she moved in. The lake house she lives in warps reality and won't let anyone in aside from those she has personally approved of. Everyone else either ends up on the other side of the lake or in the lake itself.

[Love Life]

Being so strange since childhood means that Xiu has always struggled with partners. Her mother nearly pulled her hair out trying to find someone who would match Xiu's seemingly-high standards, only for the choices she made to be run off or, in some horrifying instances, killed. Those who were killed were mostly bad people, but there has been at least one where it was genuinely an accident.

There was a brief romance between Xiu and a man during the early 1900's, but unfortunately, Xiu's older sister (Bai) also took interest in him. Xiu was torn between allowing her sister to marry him or marrying him herself, eventually deciding that the happiness of her sister was more important. Bai and the man married; given how happy Bai has been, Xiu feels satisfied that she has done the right thing, regardless of how upset she felt at the time.

When Xiu was moving into her lake house, she tried to warn off a woman that was getting too close. This woman is named Ashley Blackwood, who belongs to @frenzyfeline . Ash ends up calling Xiu a 'misty bitch', and Xiu ends up following Ash around like a lovesick puppy because people have never truly been rude to her; something that she has decided she actually quite likes (when it's Ash) and would like to keep hearing.

Despite Ash's best attempts, Xiu is difficult to shake off and followed her around the world (mostly to check on her per Xiu's mother's wishes, but she took the chance to see Ash whenever she could). Ash eventually gave in and they went on a date. The rest is history (aka still being written, but details details).
