Behind the Zines, Part Two: An Interview with Russ Forster | Riot Fest

Russ Forster started the quarterly zine ‘8-Track Mind’ in 1990 as a way to unite 8-track fanatics. Now back in publication, we caught up with Forster about the zine’s past and future.

“Making [zine series] Shotgun Seamstress has been a way for me to keep myself company as one of few black punks in the various scenes I’ve been in, and it’s also been a mode of psychic liberation — maybe even decolonization — for me. Telling varied stories of varied black outsider experiences has proven to me the vastness of black self-expression.”

"I think the medium of zines allows you to be quite free, both in the topics you’re exploring, and just how you put it all together.
