Will say tho our extensive non-abstinence only heavily STI inclusive sex education was largely the crusade of two guys, Mr. R and Mr. D, one whose uncle died I think in the AIDS crisis and was going to make sure we understood the gravity of that and how to avoid it and other STIs ourselves (The STI portion also included a lot of anti-homophobia workshops that I'm pretty sure he invented wholecloth), and the other who basically fought the principle for years and kept an unlocked drawer of condoms in his office that he would tell kids to go and take discretely if they wanted them until the school just kinda gave up and changed their methods.

I did not appreciate just how dedicated those two were and how much Work they had to do until well after I graduated. Honestly, mad respect for these two dudes fighting the system to achieve one (1) thing and that was make sure the feral children of coastal Maine understood sex safety and how to be marginally less homophobic in 2004.
