all up in your DMs asking if you'll ever write a one-shot or fic of when Barbara died because if anyone has her chemistry down with Ryan/Deacon it's you (also hi im on hiatus but i still hella lurk)

Hi there! Hope you’re doing well! You just moved, right? Settling in well? (I feel ya on the hiatus bit. I have barely written in months >.>)

As for Barbs and Dekers, believe me, I have definitely thought about it. I probably won’t do a one-shot, since I’m planning on writing about that very thing at some point in Glas. I wanted it to be the entirety of their relationship -- at least in my series’s universe -- from rocky beginnings until the very end. (And I am dying over the thought of killing her :X)

And thank you for the compliment! I try very hard to get the chemistry and personalities correct with the characters I write. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it’s a dumpster fire (or at least feels that way).

2, 16, and 25 for Julia x Deacon pls ❤️

Yay, some questions :D This is sorta long, so I’m going to toss it under a cut.

2. What was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their LI?

Ah, now this is a good question, and the answer is complicated? Both Julia and Deacon were head over before they really noticed. I’ll take them one at a time because they’re both different.

For Julia, she became aware that she loved Deacon after he bugged out on her about a year after the Institute was taken out. She’d been ignoring that feeling for a long time before that. She was afraid that if she gave the feel a name, he’d disappear, like Nate and everyone else she ever loved. 

However, she fell for him back when she first made it into the Institute and discovered Shaun was an old man, and that she’s failed him completely. She nearly lost it, and Deacon managed to pull her back from the brink. 

For Deacon, it’s more convoluted. He’s always been fascinated by her. Mainly because she was unknown and from the Old World, and he’s always found anything Prewar to be irresistible, and she’s a living walking relic. 

He realized he loved her after a friendly night of drinking and talking out their troubles in Sanctuary turned into sex, and he bugged the hell out (Because Deacon handles his true feelings about as well as a mini nuke to the face). As for when he actually fell? Probably right after the time he told her about his past, and she didn’t reject him. Hell, she hugged him and told him he wasn’t that man anymore and would always be her friend. He fully expected rejection.

16. Jealous at all?

No, not really. Deacon probably shows the most tendencies, but it’s more a fear that Julia is going to come to her senses and bug out. It’s more clingy than jealous, really. Julia trusts Deacon implicitly.

25. Share any headcanons about their relationship.

Deacon is the one who cooks the most, as Julia just can’t get the hang of Wasteland ingredients. She feels a little guilty, like she isn’t properly taking care of him, but Deacon loves it.

Deacon is constantly touching her, which is unusual as he generally avoids contact. They’re brief brushes against her skin, but it makes Julia feel special. Like he’s reassuring her – and himself – that he’s here, and this is real.

He’s taken to removing his sunglasses when they’re alone (and on rare occasions when Shaun is around). It’s one of the ways he shows Julia he loves her, allowing her to see him exposed and vulnerable.

He doesn’t say I love you because he’s afraid something will happen to Julia if he does. He understands it’s irrational but can’t help it. He shows her constantly, though, in little touches and glances and gestures.

When Julia told him she was pregnant, he didn’t really believe it until she started to show. As her belly grows, he can’t keep his hands away, touching her like she’s the most precious thing he’s ever known (because honestly she is, and he can never fully express just how much she means to him). He’s utterly thrilled and terrified that he’s going to be a father. He often talks to their unborn child, and it melts Julia’s heart.
